Yup, they changed the bottles this year. And Hacker-Pschorr too (they're owned by the Paulaner group).

It's a nice way of knowing that you have this year's versions.

I think of Sam's Octoberfest as a maltier, slightly beefier Boston Lager.

My bias opinion is that the Paulaner will wipe the floor with the other two.

I don't go wild trying all the oktoberfest beers I can during this time like others in this thread, but last year's Gansett's Marzen was among my favorite I had, regardless of price. For the price it was a slam dunk.

Olde Magouns now has Ayinger and Rothaus Marzen on tap in addition to Weihenstephan and Hofbrau.

Looks like Olde Magoun’s just added Rothaus Märzen and Ayinger Oktober Fest-Märzen to their tap list alongside the Weihenstephaner and Hofbräu.

Is Athletic Brewing (NA) distributed in MA? Their Oktoberfest is in stores in CT. Wonder how it would do in a blind test.

My pregnant wife has been occasionally drinking Athletic and bought a 6 pack of the Oktoberfest. I was not a fan, it was thin and watery (especially compared to my Copper Legend). Their lighter beers that I've tried (I think a blonde and IPA) have actually been decent but the few darker styles (Oktoberfest and Stout) were both really watered down tasting and feeling.

That’s unfortunate. I just picked up a sixer so will report back. Agree on the Blonde and IPA, excellent NA options.

Best octoberfest beers for me this year:
    East rock
    Counterweight
    Hofbrau
    Wheistephan
    Paulner

    Wouldn’t get again:
    Back East
    Firefly
    Jack abbey
    Victory
    Sierra Nevada

disappointed because I am a big SN and JA fan.

Just a note that Burlington (MA) Wine and Liquor has 12 packs of both Paulaners as well as Hacker Pschorr for $14.99.

Picked up the Marzen and can see why AlcahueteJ liked it so much - it's got a really deep and dark breadiness that's a step beyond any of the others I've tried while still being crisp and relatively light feeling. Hoping to try this alongside Brocktoberfest and Spaten for a tournament of (personal) champions.

In other unrelated news, they had a bunch of 4 packs of Weyerbacher Sunday Morning Stout and Sunday Mole stout in the discount stack for $12. I've lost track of whether people still get excited about that beer but figured I'd mention it for anyone who loves a bargain.

Yeah, I’ve had a blast drinking the shit out of Marzens and Festbiers for the past few weeks

    Hacker-Pschorr
    Bitburger
    Weihenstephaner
    Copper Legend
    Hofbrau
    Benediktiner
    Paulaner Marzen
    Paulaner Octoberfestbier
    Life on Marzen
    Zero Gravity
    Sierra Nevada
    Medusa Simon (Festbier)

On deck are Queen City Oktoberfest, Bell’s, and Medusa’s Marzen, Hecubus.

In terms of my favorite so far, I’ll need to do a little more “research” between HB, ZG, and Benediktiner. Least favorite by far was the Simon, which bummed me out because local Festbiers are hard to come by.

Tried Aeronaut's oktoberfest because someone got me a gift card and was disappointed. Very muted flavors and a citrus quality in the hops. It's like they used hops they use in a NEIPA in this beer which is just brutal. Will be scouting out more this weekend.

I’m not a huge fan. It’s a bit harsh and more brown ale-like than Oktoberfest. It’s got this weird note I pick up in amber Oktoberfests that have missed the mark for me this season.

Compared to say, Paulaners Marzen, which has none of that harshness. Incredibly smooth and bready.

Then again I felt this way about Brocktoberfest too and I believe you liked it. My brother liked the Nightshift, so I’d give it a shot.

Its weird because I’ve had great lagers from both of those breweries. I feel like the amber Oktoberfest style is really hard to brew.

I also have had Bitburgers and Paulaners Oktoberfest Bier which aren’t pictured above. I plan on picking up Brooklyn’s and Bells too. After that I’ll probably buy some favorites again (which I’ve already started doing). Starting to run out of new ones to have now.

I plan on trying to snag a window seat today. I feel that’s pretty safe.
