It may just be me but I like to see what I am buying.../\

Don't get me wrong I have enjoyed countless drafts from this brewery in the past but ever since they have gone to their model of boxing their cans I haven't quite gotten it. Is this for artistic flair or for some other reason? I want to buy some hop crisis but I cannot visibly see the cans inside. Anyone with an inside story on BA? What happens when I buy a pack and one (or all) is cracked at the seal, just marginally?

    Thanks for the input.

I have purchased beer inside boxes many, many times. Never bought a box with a broken can inside. Never even heard of that problem.

Were they all canned beers or bottles? Because it wouldn't be a problem if it were bottled, there would be obvious physical damage.

Open and see. Problem solved. I don't understand why you would waste time, money, and trees putting cans in a box. Boxed bottles however...makes a little more sense - no light.

Cardboard boxes are probably a bit less expensive than the plastic holders that click into the top of the can and a bit more classy than the ugly rings. Several breweries are opting for cans in boxes. Out of all the canned beers I have ever had, I have only had one bad (bad seal per se) and I attribute that to shipping. I think worrying about cracked seals is a waste of time.

both. never heard of anyone purchasing cans that were damaged. you'd think it would happen all the time with macros coming in 24 pack boxes but I've never, ever heard of it (and I work at a wholesaler).

I don't know for certain, but maybe it's easier/cheaper than putting those plastic six-pack-keeper-together things on them?

So it is all a cost thing it seems. makes me a little less skeptical about buying a 4 pack canned beer in a box then. Just so odd when a majority have the plastic rings everyone has mentioned. Thanks for the input.

Sculpin cans come in a box, Two Hearted and Oberon cans come in a box. Boxed cans are good

A cracked seal would be rejected at any of several stages before it would ever see the darkness of a box. There's a handfull of things that would crack a seal, but the primary one would also result in a fustercluck at the brewery because the seamer heads are definitely screwed up and there are probably some massive alignment issues and poor maintenance that did it.
I've never seen a cracked seal that made it off the canning line. I've seen leakers due to damaged cans and out of alignment heads, but it the seal were actually cracked, the thing would probably spray or foam out on its journey to being packed up, so even if it does manage to get boxed it'll get rejected at QC because the box is probably a soggy mess.

Me either I just bought a bunch fo their stuff and I love the packaging.l I love the cans cause i have no car and I walk everywhere so cans are lighter, They keep light out. The cardboard has a clear printed best by date on it and so do the single cans. I have tried 3 out of the four offerings avaiable and I am going back for the last one because they were all that good.

If the cans inside had a broken seal the box would have water damage or be wet. I don't think you have too much to worry about.

What a weird post. Sixpoint, Foolproof, Boston Beer Works, among others have the same packaging. If something is damaged, return it. Any store worth it's salt will happily refund your money. If not, move on to another. Why do you need to see each individual can???

There are a few things that kind of suck about the cardboard box packaging:

    1. Inability to see the freshness date. This is the worst thing and has been discussed in other threads. Really makes it hard to want to buy a sixer of something hoppy when you can't even see how fresh it is.
    2. Less likely the retailer will break up the six/four-pack to put it in the singles section.
    3. The plastic ring holders are reusable and I do reuse them so I'm less likely to buy the cardboard box packs.

Most breweries that box their cans post the date on the box somewhere. I know that 21A puts their canned on date on the end flap. I do like the sealed 6pk box however. It does keep people from buying their own "variety pack" nothing worse than buying a 6er of what you think is all ipa and getting 2 ipas 2 stouts and 2 of whatever the seasonal brew is because someone wanted to "mix it up" and as far as this post, if you really are worried about a punctured seal you can always squeeze the sides and if you hear the crinkle of the can just grab a different box. I wouldn't worry about it though.

you can't see a whole lot through a brown bottle either... A cracked/empty can should be noticeable by staining/weakening of the packaging or the damn thing being unbalanced. It isn't rocket science, pick up two packages and see if they weight the same. Honestly, I support cardboard boxes over plastic rings. Cardboard is a renewable resource and is easily recyclable. Can rings get thrown in the garbage and depending on the level of care by the individual throwing them away they may not get cut up first. QC is there for a reason so trust them to do their job and if they fail the merchants should be looking out for the consumer by noticing some of the contents of a palate/case being a little damaged/distorted/discolored. If it really bothers you see if a place will allow you to buy individual cans or look it over before leaving the store and ask for a replacement if you find damage.

I actually get where you're coming from on this one, and I don't find it as ridiculous as some others. Damaging a can to the point where it could leak, even just a "wee bit" is easier than one would think , the difference here is with beer...it's just beer.
Beer contains alcohol obviously, so the worst that could happen is you get flat beer. Unless it's been sitting there for over a few years, I'd say you're pretty safe.
To the rest that don't care about buying dented cans with FOOD in it...beware.

They stand out from the crowd. More room for spiel. Have only seen two breweries with that type of packaging around here. Easy to find when scanning the beer cooler. Never had a leaking can.

Indeed they are, but boxes of bottles would make even more sense...those I suppose they are called cases.
