This upcoming memorial day weekend we are hosting our 2nd Annual Lager Cask Fundraiser at The Tavern Framingham. All the beer is being donated and 100% of proceeds go to One Mission, a childhood cancer foundation dedicated to enhancing the lives of pediatric cancer patients and their families.

This year we enlisted the help of NERAX as there will be 24 different lager casks from at least 15 different breweries. We have also expanded the event to three sessions. Tickets are $10 ahead of time on-line or $15 at the door. Includes a souvenir glass. Beers will be $5 for a pint and $2.50 for a 6 oz pour.

Any insight on the "various" offerings from you guys?

I will be attending, and am looking forward to it. Sounds like a great night and a great cause.

We will be doing a cask of our Lawson's collab aged with coffee. The perfect breakfast lager with Coffee, Maple, Smoke and Lactose.

We are also thinking of doing another cask of our Alphabet Soup, which we had at the Drink Craft Beer festival. The ABCS dry hoped even more.

We are still throwing ideas together.

Awesome. I was hoping for the Grapefruit Jabby or the Coffee S&D to make an appearance. Thanks for the reply!

i won't be anywhere near there, but honestly it's worth it just to pound some JA and schlenkerla (berkshire czech pils chaser). charity a plus.

I'll be there for the Saturday day session. Any word on what JA will be pouring other than Lawson's collab? Never been to The Tavern. Decent food?

I'm headed up on Friday. No word, other than their post earlier in this thread. I've never been the to Tavern either, but the menu looks like typical pub fare (plus a bacon wrapped pop tart). It seems to get decent reviews.

    Hey all,

I used to live down the street from the Tavern and never miss an opportunity to make it back to the 'ham for some good beer. I went to the one last year and it was fantastic. This year looks like it will be bigger and better so I'm going to head over Friday night.

For those of you who haven't been to the Tavern, it's the bar that hosted the Buy A Beer For Boston (http://beeradvocate.com/community/threads/buy-boston-a-beer.83090/) last month that raised $8,000 for the One Fund. The owner, Paul, has turned his little dive bar into an awesome place to drink a beer and, along with Jack's Abby, has thrown a number of great fundraisers for different charities. Also, they usually have 4 different Jack's Abby beers on tap, so you can't go wrong there! Also, the food is pretty good--they do a nice job with the standard stuff, and their deep fried stuff is delicious (yeah, deep fried pepperoni!).

PS. BONUS: The Tavern is a 5 minute walk from the Framingham Commuter Rail stop. Schedule is here: http://www.mbta.com/schedules_and_maps/rail/lines/?route=WORCSTER

For our casks we will have the Coffee Smoked Maple Lager, Leisure Time Lager with Grapefruit and Ginger, and an extra dry hopped Hoponius Union.

I'd just like to thank Jack's Abby for putting this on for a good cause.. It was disappointing as an event but good effort guys.

    What was disappointing about it?

-A good handful of the casks weren't functioning properly.
-There was no good order to getting the beers, there were some people who posted up in front of the serving table, and got a few pours before others got their first. No one ever told them to step back and get in line again.
-The room was small and cramped with very little room to sit, and if you weren't sitting there was no place to set anything down, thus ordering food seemed like a bad decision.
-Some of the beers felt like they may have been rushed. I was not impressed by any of the JA offerings (which is saying a lot), and the Pretty things offering was a diacetyl bomb.
-The event was slated to have 24 casks which was downgraded to 17 according to the list before the event, and there were only 15 casks actually there.....I had other gripes but I don't want to go crazy here.

It was not nearly as bad, in my opinion, as you claim. Jeez. ONLY 15 beers to choose from. Yeah, that sucked. And there were plenty of spots "to set things down" in the bar area proper. I thought both versions of Hoponious Union were terrific. I'm not sure what you were expecting. Sure, the venue was less than ideal, but c'mon. And to think you have even more "gripes" tells me you came in with a bad attitude. It was only one night. You'll get over it.

I never said it was bad, I said it was disappointing. Words have meanings. I only explained my thoughts of the night after being asked. I still had a good time, but don't let that stop you from trying to squash my opinions because you have your own.

15 beers is good, but disappointing because it was not how the event was billed. Maybe everyone doesn't expect the things they are told will be there to actually be there.

The bar proper was quite busy and there wasn't really an option to head over there.

I'm glad you enjoyed the JA beers, I thought they were underwhelming. We can have different opinions. I wasn't "expecting" anything, just voicing my thoughts on what I had.

I came in with a great attitude, I got the ticket as a birthday gift from my wife. I had a good time, but that doesn't mean it was't disappointing. I love that it was for a good charity and respect that a lot of hard work went into it. There is nothing to "get over" other than maybe you getting over people voicing a view that's different than yours on the internet.

I guess I should have just left it at thanking the JA guys for putting on a nice event.

Just voicing my opinion that you were overly critical. Just my "opinion".
