So I just acquired one of these, a 2012, and am wondering how it ages. Being a barleywine, my first thought was of course to hang on to it until after I'm dead, but the reviews of the beer seem to point to a wild, fruity hop profile that "blurs the lines of barleywine and DIPA."

Now, a little later, years later? Thoughts?

Depends on your tastes. It's sort of a malty DIPA now, so drink now to experience the hop profile. Aged, the hop profile will diminish and it becomes more of a malt bomb, so if you enjoy those more, then wait. Generally, I like to drink everything fresh if I only have 1 of them, so maybe drink one now, then trade for more later if you decide you want to conduct an aging experiment with it.

Drink it now! IMO, It's more of an DIPA.

IMO, you have two options. 1. Drink it fresh, next 1-3 months. or 2. Drink it in 3 years. Behemoth with a couple years on it is a beautiful thing, but I'm not a fan of fading hops flavor, which you'll get in a year old bottle.

I actually have a vertical line that I've been collecting. I cracked open one that was dating back to 2007. It tasted beautiful with still a super present hop profile. Not crisp and fresh hops, but still in your face. Like most have said though, may your choice be made with fun, 'cause that's what it's all about.
