Odd that nobody is talking about the bottle share for the lines at Vintage DLD 2020. There are no bag size limits!

Honest question here, as I have only tried Dark Lord a couple time....are people pretty much looking to get this in hope of getting a variant to sell for $200? $40 a bottle is a ton of money.

I hope not. I think the secondary market has dried up for these given the amount produced and duration they have been going on for (has anyone not tried DL by now in 15 some years?). The vast majority of 2nd tier variants (I think anything outside Chemtrail/Vanilla and maybe Rawri) would be lucky to score $100 a bottle these days. And DL prices look to be closer to what they should retail for than what someone could hope to make a worthwhile profit on. Buy it because you'll drink it. Hoard it because you have to much money and don't want to upkeep on a boat.

I've gone back and forth on it to be honest. The pours I have had of Darklord I have really enjoyed, especially the 1-2 BA variants I've tried. I've lived in Chicago a good chunk of my life and have been in this hobby for a decade and never had my own bottle of Darklord. Not sure how it's happened that way but it has.

I'm not sure it's worth $150/200 but I think I am going to end up going for it.

The 3floyds website is going to crash hard at 3pm today. We need to bring back the Dark Lord day thread just to better capture all of the bitching when this happens.

Is there someone tech savvy with time on their hands who can set up some sort of sign up for time slots to buy bottles? If all 5,000 people agree to only go to the site for their allotted time, we could avoid a lot of headaches.

I'm assuming most people are hoping for Handjee/Chemtrailmix, those are still solid value. You basically need those to make a profit. The next tier down is probably $150-175 (Rarri/Bourbon/Rye/Loadstar). A few other ones can probably get around $100. Some people might be counting on $25 per regular, but I'm guessing you're probably going to have to give them away between this and a future 2020 sale. The extra variant packs have more potential, but unless you hit twice it's still not a huge margin.

Of course there's some weirdos like me that actually drink them. I don't really want 3 sets though, that's way too much regular even if you don't have any in the cellar.

Reading your entire first paragraph I was just thinking about how excited I would be if I got either of those so that I could actually drink them, not so I could sell them lol

I really hope people aren't putting in for this just to try and flip bottles, but it is the 2020 beer scene after all.

I would assume most of us are either going to drink them or trade for other beer. They're definitely pretty good trade bait. There will definitely be people trying to sell them, I hope they all get Turtledogged. There are much more efficient ways to make money.

Certainly. Like acquiring Handjee empties, refilling them with skunk beer, rewaxing them, trading them across the country, and then selling what you get in return.

What the hell kind of a sick and twisted world do you think we live in where people want to get beer just to drink it? LOL

I counted and have had 13 different variants. I want get ones that I have not had (to drink).

Think people will be trading at the pickup with other folks? Especially if people are seeking a certain variant? Think we should make a second "meetup" thread or take it to Dark Lord Day 2020?

I had a pour of Berzerker or something last year, and some regular about 6 yrs ago lol. I never made it to DLD.
I'm not a seller at all..I know a few lol. I was just seriously curious if overall it's worth it. I suppose if I'm looking for confirmation that it is, I think I already know my answer.

Almost 4 months ago myself, @Jinx989 , and the group of us that went to DLD last year got together and opened all of our variants, along with a few other friends. Come to think of it, I probably should've posted something about it back then. From '19 we had Handjee, Loadstar, 'Rrari, Chemtrail, Rye BADL, and Varnov, along with 17 Chemtrail, and Muerte.

For me, and several others, Rye was near the the best of the night, if not tops. It was excellent. Next tier for me came Handjee and the Chemtrails, then 'Rrari which tasted like Neopolitan ice cream and coconut was pretty faded. The Loadstar, Varnov, and Muerte brought up the rear in no specific order. I really liked Loadstar at DLD, but by early March, at least the bottle we had, was crazy over the top sweet relevant to the others and the coconut was pretty much gone.

I used a Cuvee of many of the regular DL leftovers to braise a corn beef the next day. No regrets.

Oh jeez, I predict a giant red circle outside of 3 Floyds on the Covid-19 hotspot map on that day.

DLD has dudes offering cash for bottles outside the pick-up line, wonder if they will be there in the car line pick-up with wads of hondos....

I really think the market for anything other than handjee or chemtrail is pretty limited. I don't think you'll be able to get much margin out of any of the others. Being that I just want to drink these with friends, I'll be pretty pissed if they sell out to mostly resellers.

Was looking forward to this, but man that list has a lot of dud variants. Too risky at the price with no fest. (they aren’t including admission to next DLD with this right...?)
