i thought crushing mass was quite a bit better than Cocomungo. CM had massive amounts of coffee. Cocomungo is much more balanced in its adjuncts. to me that’s a great thing regarding the maple and not such a great thing in the coconut. that said, the barrel shines a lot more in Cocomungo than it did in CM.

Either way if Crushing Mass or Coconumgo were advertised as Dark Lord variants they would be $200+ trade bait beers instantly. Thankfully they are shelf beers we get to enjoy with no drama.

yes, to be clear i have zero complaints about either beer. Crushing Mass was an added bonus at “DLD” pickups and i grabbed another 4pk locally a week or 2 later. very much hope this “series” continues.

Best things about both is that they were in 12oz servings, available delicious and less than $24 a 4PK.

More barrel aged stouts, less 10% abv flavored battery acid sours.

I got a 4-pack of Blurple Gatti, and I thought it was great. Pretty sweet for FFF, but not enough to bother my pastrified palate. I have also had almost universal bad experience with "white" stouts, but this one basically tasted like a barleywine.

And that was my experience with Blurple Gatti and Yella Rarri- they were very enjoyable fireside barrel aged barleywines though labeled as pale Stouts. I was blown away by Rev’s Mineshaft Gap (cognac barrel aged barleywine) and then a few weeks later FFF dropped the previously mentioned pale Stouts which I thought were of the same amazing level as Mineshaft Gap.

this begs the question of how do they justify Dark Lord bottle pricing going forth? You can get 48 oz of DL equivalent barrel aged Stouts from FFF for $23-25, but 25oz of barrel aged DL start at $50 and regular DL at $30? Is the price difference the vanilla?

I thought cocomungo would've benefited from less (or no) maple, given that it was a little sweeter than I wanted, but as someone who hasn't made it out to Munster in years, I'm pretty excited to get anything like this in the city from FFF.

(and as someone who drinks a lot of samey local BA options, I appreciate that I can walk away from FFF beers for awhile, come back, and still recognize their hallmark features)

I don't think FFF has ever "justified" any of their pricing: "Here's the price, if you don't like it then leave it on the fucking shelf". This is actually why I haven't had any of their stuff in a while- before today- pricey and a lot of local alternatives.

Today, however, I saw Speed Castle. A pilsner from 3 Floyd's? Interesting. I've loved Gumballhead and Zombie Dust over the years, and of course DL, so I know their quality is usually high so I picked this up. No regrets. No dryness on this pils IMO, will buy again.

This beer is all over Cincinnati. Dropped 2 weeks ago. Might be sold out at this point but my local shop still has some as of this weekend.

No dryness? As if that's a good thing? It kind of should be dry. It also should be bitter. I thought it tasted closer to a helles, being fairly sweeter. Hell if it was labeled as such I'd have given it higher marks. I enjoyed it well enough but a pils it is not.

Spoken like someone whose experience with FFF is he once bought a 6'er of year old Zombie Dust at double retail?

Good gracious.. It was a good thing for me though maybe not fitting the pils style. Yes I would agree this is more helles than pils because of that lack of dry finish. Again, I would buy again (because I liked it not because I'm basing my buying on "this doesn't fit the pilsner style.") I don't think I ever said "I would buy this again because it fits the style".

Cmon man. What does this even mean? I've enjoyed FFF for years, been to the brewpub. Their beers are great quality, yet relatively pricey. I haven't bought them for a while because of the great local offerings.

Historically, I think their pricing has been very fair throughout the years. The one glaring exception is the $50 barrel aged releases that would sell out in a day. I can’t fault them for charging what people were more than willing to pay. If anything, the pricing on their barrel aged peers has improved.
