It means the "high prices" were mostly just liquor stores marking up their beer due to the high demand. And FFF got a reputation for high prices but it was mostly markup from stores.

At the brewpub they were always $11 six packs...

They did have some $30-$40 barrel aged releases though, before the days when that was common. In addition to $50 Dark Lord variants of course.

Without stores taking advantage, I remember they were usually a couple bucks more a six pack than other brands. Which felt like a splurge back then but now seems kind of quaint with $22 4-packs being incredibly common.

Mmmmmmm. We no longer need to discuss whether the wax or the coffee beans were BA. We should focus on whether the brewers themselves have been Aged in a barrel.

As others have mentioned, your perception or FFF’s pricing seems to be skewed by retail pricing for their perceived hype. Floyds have some of the best pricing in the industry out of the kiosk and have kept their pub staple beers well below industry average pricing. Zombie Dust was the best bargain out there and may still be- 72ozs, in bottles (more expensive than cans) for $12 out of the pub? That’s what Half Acre sells 64ozs of their Pilsner and session pale ale for. Revolution sells their barrel aged premium stuff for 64oz for $35-40 whereas FFF out the pub is $23-25 for 64ozs of premium barrel aged stuff.

Back to my original comment, how is FFF going to justify Dark Lord being priced at what it was when they have been giving a better quality alternative in bigger quantity for less money? I’d also add Dark Lord doesn’t sit on the shelves because it isn’t distro’d.

Edit: Kodt, your prior post seems to have the quotation attributed to me rather than the user who posted

Barrel aging humans is some next level shit! To quote their slogan, “It’s not normal!”

Since I don't live near FFF's brewery, and many other nationally distributed breweries, of course I am basing my opinion on retail pricing. From what I have seen on my bottle shop shelves over the last many years, they are on average higher priced than most other nationally distributed brands. Just calling it as I have seen it.

Isn’t DLD supposed to be announced around St Paddy’s day. C’mon FFF, don’t let us down! Need DLD back ASAP…

Maybe a fall DLD or spring 2023 is my guess.

if they discontinued the pub, is there any reason to think DLD is coming back? not trying to be overly pessimistic here just saying..

Is it too much to hope that if DLD does return that there will still be cheaper packages that don’t include the festival and allow for proxy pickup? The timing has never worked in the past for me, but I wouldn’t mind getting a package at some point…

Same here. I ALMOST pulled the trigger last year and kind of regretted not going for it. A change to smaller format bottles but a similar overall $/oz ratio would 100% seal the deal for me.

But also why not both? Make both the fest people and the drive through people happy?

Take it for what it’s worth as they may be speculating too, but people working the kiosk/taproom have suggested that in person DLD will likely happen regardless of having a pub and that the pub won’t be coming back, but the distillery space will most likely be a pseudo-brewpub.

My thoughts exactly. Two options, with effectively a price for the fest being an add on. If I was able to participate, paying (say) $100 for the fest seems like a no brainer. You get that value from taps alone, not to mention the shares. -And, hey, if you're not able to or don't want to, the pickup/proxy option seems like a good one.

I'd be willing to pay 30% more (per oz) if they switched to 12oz bottles over bombers, too. I'm sure others would as well. Seems like a great way to help bridge that gap if they are on the fence of doing both.

I'll gladly forgo wax for a 12oz format. As we found out recently, wax is no longer a concern. It's the quality of the barrels in which the brewers were aged that matters.

Looks like FFF have a couple of wild ales coming on the horizon. Likely 4pk 12 oz bottles as well. Maybe the BA stouts in the colder months and wild ales in the warmer months?

Just when people start praising fff’s BA stout program, they spoil the goodwill by bottling more fruited paint thinner.

At least these abominations are not 10%.

Back in my day (get off my lawn), that was how the fest was ran. The price for DLD was $40, but that just got you through the gates, with access to all the taps, merch and all that. The bottles were a separate thing entirely, which was $20/bottle with up to 4 limit. And then you had The Golden Ticket, which was 1 in 8 or 1 in 10 odds (something like that) that you would get a winner and be given the opportunity to purchase a $50 variant.

My first couple of years you just showed up and waited in one line and hoped you got a full allotment! I think they started the ticketing in 2010.

Thank you! This made my day  I have to think that was part of the plan when they built that distillery anyway. That's a really nice space they've invested a lot of money into. I mean, how many times has the brewpub burned down now anyway? Seems like once a year... so it's probably a fire hazard anyway.
