I am apparently in the minority here but I did not enjoy this years Broo Doo. I remember it being piney with a very assertive bitterness, this years I found way too tropical and very little bitterness. Now I admit it could be palate switch but for whatever reason I’m not a fan.

I thought I heard that there would be some variance in the taste of a wet hop from year to year because the wet hops themselves vary? Add in that they did go to a different hop farm this year and that could be the reason.

I think it changes a bit every year anyway, but they did use different hops this year. Still good but it isn't the best year by any means.

I just drank Crushing Mass out of the bottle. It was an amazing experience.

From the picture above - it seems like it's just getting a new name, similar to Drunk Monk / Legendary Shader?

I was able to snag singles of Backmasking (!) and Lunar Throne from a variety pack.

Never had these two, excited to try them.

Is CM still available in the Chicago market? I missed when it came around Ohio again while out of town.

Was finally able to track down Variety Pack 3 which FFF started selling out of their shop in late August. But took til now for me to find in stores and Dust, Ice, and Throne were all canned in late July. Kind of a bummer, drinking a Zombie Dust right now and its got that faded hop malt forward sweetness. Not terrible but the first VP had much fresher beers in it.

This was the pack I just severed to grab singles of Backmasking & Lunar Throne from...confirmed this is the first time I saw it in Chicago. I really only cared because I've always wanted to try Backmasking, the oatmeal stout, but if I were a hop head these days I would be bummed too.

I read that to be an Irish Red ale, which isn't a wet hop.

First time having Crushing Mass but I quite liked it. Huge coffee flavor and medium to medium-lighter body. Odd to see 15% on a beer with coffee as it often dilutes it but I think this one is pretty good and worth a single bottle purchase for sure.

Zombie Ice turns into a malty mess quickly. Dumped one out, gave one away, and may not finish the last one.

On that note I enjoy Backmasking more than I used to.

I feel like Dust was susceptible to this for a long time and I still watch the dates closely.

The Dust in the variety pack is a malt bomb, I still enjoyed the Ice. Lunar Throne is fine.

Buddy gave me a bottle the other day and thought it was ok. Have to agree, that piney bitterness is not as pronounced as years passed. Still a great brew though.

BackMasking is delicious. It's ALMOST a black IPA, but dials back the citrus hop flavors just enough; notes of light roast coffee bean, fresh cream & mild orange peel make for a very delicious beer.

I wouldn't say it's worth buying the variety pack for; you're getting 9 old-ish hoppy beers (and Lunar Throne is trash, in my opinion), but if you can find a retailer willing to break up the pack (looking at you, Bottles & Cans) I'd absolutely do so.

Oh man, I haven't had Backmasking in a good 5 or 6 years. I remember buying it in bombers. Always a bad ass label too. I'd very much like to revisit that beer.
