I'd be curious to learn more about this. They aren't exactly in prime real estate area, it isn't massive in size warranting a huge staff on payroll, they aren't exactly giving beer away and the turnaround on tables and the bar always appears strong. Seems real weird and suspicious honestly. The only thing I guess could be the food? Even then it is fairly priced

It is curious, you’d figure a good amount of people are stopping through on a “road trip” from Chicago/Michigan/Indiana and would stop to refuel, but maybe their closer proximity to Chicago is a disadvantage, ie they’re only ~1 hr away and therefore people just grab beers to go and stop for lunch later?

Regardless, I’ve only been once and really enjoyed their food, thought it was excellent. Had a plan to visit in Feb that fell thru... ouch sure does hurt knowing all this now haha.

They do have tons more regional competition than they did 6-7 years ago so who knows. I don't buy it that they were losing money. I suspect two things- (1) as stated they don't want to keep hiring and firing people if there are coronavirus resurgences that close the business. If they can sustain themselves with production brewing why go through that headache? Makes even more sense if they were going to have to close the brewpub for the proposed renovation from a few years ago. (2) They are posturing for incentives from the city. If they are a draw and know the city knows it, then perhaps they are playing a game of chicken until they get what they want.

Maybe they are planning on selling the brewery?

Is the kiosk still open or do you need to order curbside pickup ahead of time? If you order curbside how long is the wait before you can pick up? I see they mention that sanitizer is ready same day which leads to me believe that other orders aren't.

Just trying to figure out how to time it all for when I'll be driving through the area.

This is the first thing that popped into my mind. They have expanded their distro across the states (as early as NJ today), they're showin their flex and want a bit of a hand from the city/county.

I was sitting at the brewpub on like a tuesday or wednesday afternoon in the winter eating my mac and cheese and having my sauvage flo and listened to some people sitting next to me talking about how they heard Floyds are going to sell their beer side of the house and go fill in on the spirits. I don't buy it at all, but, you're not the first person that has had that thought

You have to order curbside. I usually order the night before and pick up later afternoon the following day. But, I’ve ordered late afternoon and it was ready within 10 minutes. They close at 6pm so if you order close to 6pm you may have to wait until the next day. If in doubt, call them and say you’re passing through and ask if they can have it together quickly. Calling worked for a buddy last weekend.

    Curbside only still AFAIK.

I think it is mostly same day unless you place it too late in the day. They stop doing curbside pickup orders at 6pm, your order has to be in before 5pm for same day pickup.

Just place it early on the day you are coming through, or the night before and you should be good.

And be prepared for them to slam the $hit out of your trunk...The first time I looked at my wife like "Is it because we forgot to add a tip to order (who carries cash anymore and if you want to leave a tip you have to go wander down through the whole web page to find a "Tip the employee" addition. I just expected it to be on the page where you put in your credit card, but no... The second time I went I made sure to add a nice tip and they still slammed the $hit out of my trunk. Next time, I think I'm slowly going to pull forward every time they reach for the trunk to mess with them...

I was reading the comments on that announcement and there are still people saying stuff like "Well looks like they aren't going out of business"

Just hows that people have no reading comprehension whatsoever.

In the vein of conspiracy theories and the discussion on potential public transportation, Calumet Avenue by the pub is pretty jacked up right now. Munster traffic sucked on the average day Before construction. The overpass, that they may or not be building right now over the tracks, has been in the works for more than 15 years. Is closing the pub also a reaction (not necessarily maliciously) to traffic getting worse by the facility.

Great theory! That traffic is terrible.

FWIW, it’s an underpass now. They’ll be digging on half the road while everyone suffers merging into 1 lane at 45th.

I don’t doubt what you are saying. I drove through that area yesterday. The eastern two lines have been re-paved at a slightly higher elevation. It seems a funny way to start an underpass. But then again I lack an engineering degree.

I was thinking of stopping to pick up some BA Blot on my drive from WI to MI. To be clear, how much am I going to hate myself while driving to/from FFF off the freeway?

Construction has been bad enough for the past few times I stopped at FFF (probably in 2019) so if it's worse now I'm questioning whether it's worth it. It's a long drive already without adding a big headache in the middle.

I’d say you’ll wait 3-4 traffic light cycles on the southbound trip, and 1-2 on the northbound return (because the light leaving FFF allows you to bypass most of the congestion).

You won't hate yourself too much. It's a pretty quick trip off...on.
