It's no ZD don't get me wrong, but its a good substitute, cheaper, and you can almost always find it. Hell, I bought a 12 pack at Binny's last week and it was on sale for $13!

Odd Side's Citra Pale Ale tastes nearly identical to ZD up front (but fades a bit quicker). Probably only available in Michigan though.

Good luck, it is very difficult to replace a FFF beer once you get addicted to it. There are a lot of great beers out there, but it is just not the same.

I guess with all the comments that are wondering about why one would need a replacement as if to cure an addiction I should add the fact that this is for my bar concept. FFF is too difficult to keep in stock because I am not a large account and I am always looking for something great but not overly mainstream. I feel that FFF is great at what they do but I can't make money if it isn't on my shelf. You've all been great with ideas and it's refreshing to get outside opinions from different areas.

    Cheers.

If you are just looking to make money, then why would you ask for similar beers? It would help if you tell us your location. I would recommend going to some local breweries. It seems like you are looking for readily available craft beers that sell that arent mainstream. There are a lot of those, just talk to any local bar that sells craft beer, and they can point you in the right direction.

Perhaps it's for the same kind of customers who'd order these FFF offerings- he would want something similar to "replace" what these brews bring to the bar in case he can't get any kegs of FFF that week or month.

I've got a good grasp on local breweries, but I've got a great beer crowd that likes to look for new names and up and comers. I've been involved in upping our local options and although I feel the Chicago area is doing well with craft I know that other regions have equal if not better options. Trying to keep ideas fresh more than anything.

Why? Did the brewery burn down again?

Akari Shogun for Gumballhead. In fact, it's better. The other two are just really bitter IPAs, though people call them pale ales. If you had Firestone Walker IPA, or DBA, I'd order that over Alpha King. I'd order any Pipeworks IPA/APA over Zombie Dust.

With Pipeworks and Half Acre in town, I kinda feel 3F is irrelevant. I never buy their beer anymore. It's overpriced, and I've been treated like crap so many times at the brewery. I guess that I, and my friends, are done with them. Chicago can more than hold its own. 3F still has that "je ne sais quoi" going for it, though I think that's more about beer from 10 years ago.

And I heard they burned down anyway.

Dales Pale Ale for Alpha King?!? Not even close. IMO Dales sucks.

    +1. Utterly, completely different.

As for Little Sumpin Sumpin, they are both hoppy wheat-ish ales, but they don't taste alot alike imo. Oberson I love, and I like Gamballhead to but they are nothing alike. I hated HopSun. Tough one on the Gumballhead.

I actually thought Nugget Nectar tasted kinda like Alpha King, and I also think Victory Hop Devil tastes a bit like Alpha King (both have a carmelly undertone and a sweet floral hops taste) but neither is a perfect match at all. Racer 5 is pretty close, but more dry and less malty than AK.

Never had Zombie Dust so can't comment.
