312 Block Party

I was definitely looking at it. I've never been before, and it seems like a fun enough event. Beer lines worry me, though.

 

I went 2 years ago; got some "whalez, bro", but it was a bit of a shit-show. Haven't been back since.

 

I went last year and loved it. Got to have BCBCS '15 (their first time serving it) as well as Templeton Rye BCS (which I loved), Prop '14 (my favorite) and Vanilla Rye - all multiple times. This year has a different setup, though, where all that stuff is in the tap room, so my guess is it will be completely packed in there and tough to get stuff. However, there is soooo much stuff that it should still be a great time.

I'm sitting this one out, though. I'm heading out of town on Saturday, and Friday night I'll need some calmer family time as opposed to getting BCS'd out of my mind and being hungover Saturday.

 

I'll be there both days. Don't talk to me.

 

If the temperature drops to sub 40, I'm in. Sugar bombs on 80 degree days are tough.

I think the issue is (if I read the Twitter comments from GI's account correctly) that the taproom is going to be for grabbing a beer only; drinking is going to be done elsewhere (outside, I assume?).

Yeah, this is what worries me too, unless they've got someone manning the door, letting only a few people in at a time, and moving those with beers on out.

 

I didn't realize they were only going to let people get beers in the taproom, but not drink them there. That sounds stupid. But, who knows...maybe it will work. I'd certainly rather drink outside - I don't mind BCBS outside on an 80 degree day. Last year you were allowed to drink inside the taproom, but all the BCBS was done at a separate station outside on the street just south of the taproom.

 

I'm too lazy to check the tweets again (my phone is a foot from my hand--too far!), but I think they mentioned that they were changing it up from last year, and the taproom would be for purchasing beer only. That honestly sounds like a good idea to me (stops being from hogging tables/chairs for 4 hours), but yeah, I can't help but worry about how the actual purchase of beer will be handled.

On the other hand, for $10 a ticket, it might not be that big of a deal to swing by, see how it is, grab a beer or 9, and then decide if it's worth staying for.

 

I agree, that it's worth it to go check out if you have the time. I'd love to get some BCBCS '15 and Prop '15 on tap, since that's pretty much the only way to have them at this point. Not to mention so many other good things. I wonder how the line is going to be to get in there - I'd probably spend my whole time in line, then getting a beer and getting right back in line. Not exactly the outdoor block party experience I'm looking for, but it's probably worth a shot.

 

you guys are focusing on the wrong things. Beach Slang, Against Me, Dawes, Al Scorch, Meat Wave all playing. screw the beer chasing for a weekend, I'll be there.

Beach Slang and Against Me on the same day is gonna be a party! But being able to have a more-than-decent beer while enjoying them is a major plus.

 

I've heard GI is just pouring the last of their infected stuff from last year so y'all should just not even bother...

 

I actually will be in Chicago tomorrow and the tap list looks great, but with no limit on tickets it could be a huge mess. If anybody goes tonight please post and let us know how it went.

 

If you don't get any feedback, my suggestion would be to just bite the bullet and go. I feel like they won't let it be too much of a mess, but who knows.

Also, if anyone goes and has the Coffee, let us know if it tasted off or not. I had some on tap last night that was awful.

 

I may swing by at some point tomorrow, to try and grab a pour of something good. I'll check in here with my findings if I do.

The other point of interest is the weather today/tomorrow. If it rains and they aren't allowing people to drink in the taproom, that might significantly thin out the crowd.
