Yeah, I mentioned Madagascar in the Chicago stouts thread and it basically got ignored lol. Hopefully that means they’ll ignore it on release (wishful thinking)

So that release in St.Louis is not a ticketed event? Just typical stand in line for a while to get bottles?

Not all of us in Chicago ignore it. I liked last year with the limit being 6 bottles, even though you had to come back a week later to get them. Limit 2 doesn't make it worth it to drive 250 miles each way. Hopefully more hits distro up here this year. I'd love to see apple brandy Woodsman reappear as well.

I think the issue in the other thread is that no one had any info on the beer. I was also a little let down by it last year, so am not sure how to feel about it this year (although in fairness, last year was the first time I had it from a bottle).

Agree that I was a little underwhelmed by it last year given the hype and scarcity. That being said...I'll still try to find a bottle this year to give it one more shot

Anyone know if Madagascar 2 (with cinnamon) will be a thing this year?

Good question. I didn't even know it was a thing for a long time, but that would certainly be something I'd keep an eye out for, if it were to touch down in Chicago.

Any idea when this is supposed to hit Chicago distro and if it will last longer than an hour at the stores? I actually really liked last year's and would like to score a bottle, but with the Chicago beer scene I somehow doubt that will be the case.

Oh yeah, it's brutal around here. I thought I was beer advocate once, and posted what store had the most recent "hard to get" beer, and I was FLAMED by customers that knew me, and didn't know me. So the beer sold out immediately after that, and none of my friends got some, so I stopped posting that info.

I'm guessing mid February. It seems StL stores usually get new 4 Hands stuff the week after a release, with other markets to follow in the couple weeks after. Anything could happen though.

I did try a pour of 17 Madagascar at the anniversary party last Friday and it was quite nice

Good move, While giving a heads up for advertised events and releases is always appreciated. Sending a bunch of people or their mules to a store they never set foot in for 3 bottles helps neither the store or the people that shop there.

I think what works is to simply let others know when it hits an area. If you have an individual store relationship, then it let's you know to go and stop in.

This is primarily what I was interested in. Just when the drop is happening, not necessarily where.

I think most people realize that and act accordingly. There are always going to be people that have the flexibility to run to a store at any point and don't have their own personal beer click to share such info. They will always try to advocate posting publicly. I like to think if the person and or shop owner would like such info posted publicly? If I think the answer is yes, I still don't post because I'm wrong. Otherwise they would just post themselves.
