the beer you have to trade is 20$ a bottle, and the beer you want is 2$ a bottle. Is the custom to have the other give you 5 of the 2$ beers, both being equally awesome, or does the difference in liquid ounces become an issue?
It's all $4$... The trade I'm doing is for less bottles, but more expensive ones... I'm sending 4 4packs, a sixer and a few bombers... Getting 4 bottles and a 4 pack. Plus my bruery order which is a side thing. As long as te money gets close it doesn't matter about the quantity (just shipping)
My question is if shipping comes into play. If I'm trading $4$ but shipping 18 beers for 2 bombers, I'm spending way more for shipping. Is it rude to bring that up?
Well, if you're going $4$ it would be 10 of the $2 bottles. (do you even math, bro? j/k) But it's never as cut and dry as $4$ or oz. for oz. I'd say something along the line of 6 pack and maybe some extras either side would be reasonable. Depending on what the $20 bottle and the $2 bottle was. Just talk it out and 9 times out of 10, everyone ends up happy. You can't enjoy trading if you're worried about every nickel and dime.
Strong math skills there bro. In this case, usually i haven't factored in shipping costs to trades, however they can add up pretty quickly if you are trading high volumes of beer. My opinion is that only the cost of the beer should be factored into $4$. Trades for entire cases of beer, like trading 4x $20 beers for a case of Heady Topper is just insane imo.
Most questions on this subforum drive me nuts and seem to inevitably be auctions or ppl hoping to get pity and manipulate someone into being generous. But I think your question is a good one if I understand it correctly. I think what you're asking is if the perceived values of the beers are judged as equal between the traders, then should you have to give multiples of the cheaper beer for the more expensive one? The answer should be no if you're doing $4$. The trader with the cheaper beer should just add locals to make up the cost (I've never had anyone worry about total ounces). I think lots of people try to unfairly use $4$ to their advantage when they have a more expensive beer and are looking for equally limited less expensive beers (just something i have noticed in the trading forums, not saying I've experienced this that often in my own trades).
I would just point out that while it isn't impolite to bring up the difference in shipping costs, it probably isn't terribly necessary either. Fedex rates may start high, but they climb relatively slowly. So I think on the cost front, it probably ought not become too great of a problem. Now, whether you would care to make such a trade is a separate question. $4$ is a thing, but by no means the only thing.
Good feedback. Seems to be that whatever makes both sides happy is what applies/ relative value you place on your bottles So a $100 a Cantillon may not necessarily mean 30 Heady Topper, but maybe... 10-12 and something extra.
I have no concept really of cantillon prices but if you're buying off of * or some other site with inflated values you will definitely not get anyone to go $4$ with you. Does any Cantillon cost $100 a bottle?
