Let me preface this by saying that I'm all about sharing beers and am lucky enough to have a group of local NYC guys who have bottle shares fairly often. That being said, I'm torn when I make a trip to a brewery when it comes to deciding between 750 or 2L. A 750 fill is just not gonna get the job done, while a 64 Oz (or 2L) is a lot of beer for me to finish at this point in my life, and as we know its just not going to hold up overnight after you've cracked it. I know a 32 Oz growler is an option at some breweries/local bars/bottle shops (Other Half fills 32 Oz growlers which is great, and I think Trillium as well), but even those can leave me feeling a little sad when 2 pints = done. I'm looking for a growler that will give me 3 pints, so I'm advocating for a 48 Oz growler. *PS I wrote this last night after finishing what seemed like a never-going-to-be-empty 64 Oz growler but forgot to hit create thread
For me, the 32oz growler is just right...I can knock back 2 pints and not have to worry about beer going flat if I don't finish, and/or on rare occasion share a beer with my neighbor. Good luck with your quest though!
I don't agree with making another growler size. I have too many as it is. I do agree with the OP about 64oz being to much, 32oz too little. 3 beers is my sweet spot and even three pints as apposed three 12ozers is a lot. But, I do fill growlers quite often and I just wait for the right time to open a 64oz. No doubt they will make all sizes someday, though.
A decade or so ago, Anheuser Busch put it's Budweiser Brew Masters Reserve in ~46-48 oz. flip-top bottles (forget exactly what they were)- I picked one up (empty) for a buck at a flea market and have used it for a growler on rare occasions but most growler filling stores only do quart/liters or ½ gallon/2l and don't want to "do the math" for the price of a non-standard fill. (Or, if you're lucky [aka "cheat"] you hope they assume it's just a liter , if they assume it's a 2 liters, however, make sure you correct them.)
First world problems. I am still jealous your market is mature enough to have these discussions. Enjoy widespread growler fills.
750 mL is really the sweet spot for me, its enough for me to enjoy the beer but not so much that it is a chore to finish, like a 64oz growler is
2 - 750 ml growlers will do the job easy to finish and stays fresh i really like this vessel that and the 32 oz growler
Do we really need another growler? invite a friend and share the 64 or just go for it and drink the damn thing by yourself. I've collected a garage full of growlers over the years I damn well don't need another size.
Count me among those who think this is a terrible idea. If 32oz isn't enough, and 64 is too much, just buy a sixer of something different. There's way too many size formats as it is.
