My buddies and I have been soaking oak chips in past and are looking to pick up a used 5 gallon barrel to try instead. Anyone have any suggestions on where to pick one up? Looking online and it seems every place just sells new. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!

A buddy of mine had a Balcones barrel and used it for 2 brews (Stout and Old Ale) before letting it go sour and handing it off to me. It's now conditioning with a blend of sweet-red wine, Brandy and Honey. I may do one more Old Ale before moving it to Sours and Wild Ciders.

Initially the barrel smelled more like Rum than Whiskey but smelled amazing none-the-less. Those 8 gallon barrels look awesome and are pretty reasonably priced.
