    Hi,

I brew small amounts of beer, both 1 and 2.5 gallon batches. However, due to the significant amount of trub that invariably settles in my one-gallon test batches, I'm searching for a slightly larger carboy.

Recently, I came across a 5 liter Dama swing top bottle:

While it's not mentioned in the link above, I was told that the glass may not be rated for the amount of pressure generated from the process of fermentation. However, I wonder if anyone has used them for this purpose anyway. With that in mind, is anyone aware if the one-gallon glass bottles often used for test batches are also rated for fermentation?

    Thanks.

If you put an airlock on top that will release CO2 as it ferments, it shouldn't be a problem provided it doesn't clog.

Thanks for the input, MrOH. After a couple incidents of vigorous fermentation, I've gotten into the habit of putting a blowoff tube on my carboys for the first few days, and haven't had any problems since. Seems like that would alleviate any potential issues of pressure with this 5 liter bottle.
