Here we go again. I haven't finished drinking my stash of 2011 Eclipse yet. Guess Old Fitzgerald Eclipse will lost its whale status. Can't wait for the day they redo PVW.

Isn't that not possible any more? I thought PvW had been absorbed by someone.

half-correct. stitzl-weller, the original pvw distillery, closed its doors in 1992. any barrels of original pvw product would be from 1991 (21 years old at this point). you could still get pvw 23 barrels i assume.

the pvw brand is now owned by the buffalo trace distillery. so buying pvw 12 or so is basically paying for rebranded, high-end buffalo trace. pfah. it's shite. pvw 15 is basically the same recipe as buffalo trace antique collection w.l. weller (which is unfiltered and uncut), so you're paying for brand name and big pimpin' bragging rights only.

Does that mean we should buy up as many PvW 20 and 23 bottles now while we can?

do you actually like the bourbon in there? if so, yes. i love pvw 20 (more than 23) and i stockpiled it.

not to threadjack into a discussion of bourbon of course.

PVW entered in a joint venture with Buffalo Trace distillery. Starting from 2011, PVW 15 year consists of bourbon distilled entirely at the Buffalo Trace distillery (as opposed to stocks from the old Stitzel-Weller distillery). There are still some old barrels from Stitzel-Weller distillery that brewery can wrap their hands on. In addition, there are a few different bourbon labels distilled at Buffallo Trace like PVW, Eagle Rare, Geoge T Stagg, William Larue Weller... and when the brewers age their beers in these barrels, they will use the bourbon label name instead of distillery name. For example, Old Fitzgerald is brewed at Heaven Hill distillery but we still have Old Fitzgerald and Heaven Hill Eclipse.

Edit : Levitation beats me to the topic already. What a humble weightlifting dude!!!

They sure did. Not their fault. They sent plenty of emails telling me as much. Plenty of emails I got to read once I got back from where I had been.

I didn't. I saw that they tried and just chalked it up to a lesson learned. Enjoy what I can get here while I am here.

I wonder if this years batch will be noticeably bigger than last years. They have certainly upped Eclipse capacity every year. Hopefully I can find more info this May.

Can't wait to get more Eclipse. My 2011 stash is half gone. :slight_frown:

These pre-orders don't "sell out" though, right? Is it really necessary to get online right at 8am and start ordering?
