They should just sell half the tickets at the brewery and the other half online to help make sure that those who are close and frequent the brewery could make the party and go up to the brewery to get tickets, as well as spend more bucks there.

I definitely agree! There also should be an Eclipse Reserve Society in which members are granted first access, or tickets to, the release party and also priority ordering to the futures as well. And also maybe some special like a reserve society Eclipse sweatshirt or Eclipse labeled swing top growler. This would be fantastic because it would allow the huge Eclipse fans, like us, to still be able to experience this local brewery. I would almost call it a "mug club" type thing.

Yeah that's what I meant. Also slipped my mind that I grabbed a Rittenhouse Rye bottle, pretty excited for that box to show up. I have a EC 18 from last year that I'll probably break out at the next tasting.

I'd be pretty shocked. I think Anchor is saving every Old Potrero barrel for future vintages of Our Barrel Ale.

Yeah, but if it is one barrel, and only for party goers, it should be pretty easy. But who knows. Although, this is a just a wish of mine. :grinning:

It would be awesome. Hope 50/50 has a good relationship with Anchor!

I'm on my phone while traveling so this needs to be short, but first, you don't know how fast futures sold last year. We have no idea when in the night anything sold out, and we don't know counts on anything. It's possible that they're being more conservative this year (there are a number of reasons why this could be). There's also no particular reason to believe that there's a tight correlation between futures demand and party ticket demand because the party is a pita to get to, while futures are shipped.

Plus we have no idea what the party will look like this year, for all we know they'll hold it off site and have five hundred tickets.

Part of this is due to the trendyness of craft beer right now. I agree that, year after year, limited release beers get harder to find, but I don't expect instantaneous sell-out for the release party.

I do think we are going to see a lot more reserve society type of things though.

Not necessarily this year. 2011 Eclipse bottles sat for months at Hi-Times Liquors, a high volume store in orange county. However, I'm guessing the $30 price tag had something to do with that.

Stupac: Come on man, are you seriously contending that Eclipse hasn't gotten more popular year to year?

I DO know how fast it sold out last year. One day. That was much quicker than the year before where only 1/4 of the tickets were available.

Everything about it has sold out quicker each year than the year before, despite the supply growing. Bottles, release party etc. . .

And now that I think about it, last year's release party didn't triple in popularity, it quadrupled.

Bottom line fact: Everything about Eclipse has sold out faster: Every year, every variety: NO EXCEPTIONS!

Care to wager an Eclipse release party ticket on this one?

Not talking about 3rd party sales. The context of the discussion was futures and the release party.

And to be honest, I remember when they first started the futures you could walk into the pub whenever you wanted during the month of May and order them without even a fear of them selling out in 10mins, like today. And also the first Eclipse party 2 years ago, which was a max of 25 people, took over a month to sell out at $100 a ticket. Now, with last year's party it sold out in less than 24 hours via lottery, even at $100 a ticket! And that was a 100 person lottery with a waitlist. I definitely agree with Beerandraiderfan, in that Eclipses popularity has skyrocketed; and, hypothetically, if they do a 250-500 person party this year it will sell out in less than 2-3 hours.

EDIT: And now, as I predicted, Eclipse is becoming a Black Tuesday situation. I barely got my order in, and about 5 mins later Rebel Yell was sold out. Then Bernheim went next. I hate to imagine what next year's futures will be like; I may not even have a chance of ordering any. And this definitely makes me sad.

Things I now imagine that will happen in the future:
-Announcement of Eclipse Day, just like Dark Lord Day
    -Eclipse Reserve Society! :grinning:
    - Fifty Fifty/Bruery Collaboration: Black Eclipse (Well, most likely not ever. But definitely funny.:stuck_out_tongue:)

    Exactly.

I think the locals who helped out with bottling the Eclipse, should at least have the first opportunity at paying $100 for a release party ticket. Its a simbiotic (sic?) relationship no?

Then I'm gonna lean on Todd hard to make the Brandy Eclipse again. . . says the guy who hates brandy, but loves Brandy Eclipse.

Sounds like an awesome "free" beer for attendees only.

Black Tuesday, ran through every Fifty Fifty barrel, then all blended to make a Grand Cru Black Eclipse/Tuesday Eclipse

Or maybe two, no three versions, wait four etc. . . : Finished black tuesday (i.e. already ran through Bruery's bourbon barrels) gets the FiftyFifty grand cru treatment. . . and then just the base of black tuesday ran through the grand cru treatment. . . and then maybe Velocity through BT's barrels, and then maybe a blend of everything. . . could go on forever.
