50 States LIF - Part 21

Time for round 21 of the 50 states LIF. Thanks to @jshusc for Round 20.

Please only participate in this LIF if you can start your own LIF. Your LIF can be whatever type of competition you want it to be, the only rule you have to follow is players from your state and previous winner’s states are not eligible for the contest. I just moved to OH but I won this when I was in GA so I'm representing GA for all aspects of this LIF.

States NOT eligible are:
NY, IL, MI, CA, MN, PA, OH, CT, WA, TX, MA, NC, RI, AR, WI, VA, AL, NJ, SC, and GA

As some users had offer before, I will to open it to Alaska and Hawaii if a winner from that state is willing to split shipping costs with me.


The “game” for this edition will be a continuous series of questions based on events happening in real time (sports, lottery, etc.). I will set up a deadline to submit the answer for each question and keep track of the user submitted answers and outcomes. After each event the winner(s) will receive 1 point and a new question will be posted. First person to reach 3 points wins the box. Wrong guesses results in 0 points but do not eliminate you from competition. You can keep trying to get points with the subsequent questions. Anybody can join at any point. I’ll post the standings after each round.

There will be some questions where multiple users can guess/pick the same outcome and obtain a point (e.g. Question 1 below). As users get closer to reach the 3 points mark I will try to set up more specific questions where outcomes are independent for each user to reduce the chance of a tie. In case of a tie, a very narrow question will be posted and only those with 3 points will be able to guess/pick. Guess/picks for the tie-breaker question will be by alphabetical order based on your username where numbers (0-9) come after Z (i.e. A-9).


Question 1


There are 30 MLB teams playing on Wednesday August 19. Tell me the team that will score the most runs that day. Answer deadline is Wednesday at 12:30pm since the first game is scheduled for 1:05pm.

-The team pool is always open and multiple users can pick the same team.

-If more than one team scores the top amount of runs for that day each of those teams get a point.

 

This started slow so I'm going to tag all the users who entered in Part 20 to encourage participation (assuming they are still willing to start a LIF). To those inelegible: feel free to tag other users who might be interested.

Tigers got the most runs but the Cubs were the highest among the teams selected. Valrxman gets one point.

Question 2:

Powerball time! You'll kick yourself if you get this one 100% right here but don't play it officially. Easy. Guess the Five numbers (1-59) plus the PowerBall number (1-35) for the PowerBall draw to be held this Saturday August 22 at 10:59pm ET. Deadline for submissions is Saturday at 10:30pm ET.

The point goes to the user with the most correct guesses out of the 6 winning numbers. The PowerBall number does not provide extra value. It is just another number to guess.

If two or more members tie the top number of guesses each user receive one point. If none of the users who play gets a correct guess then the point goes to the user whose SUM of the 6 guessed numbers is closer (either above or below) to the SUM of the 6 winning numbers.

Question 3:

I already miss a bit of my previous city Athens, GA. Home of UGA and its beautiful ladies, of Creature Comforts and the 40 Watt club, and the bunch of drunken idiots back for the beginning of the semester. So let's play the DUI arrests game! You can see the public arrest records HERE. It's a bit messy because they're all grouped together but with a copy and paste, and some sorting and deleting in Excel you can see that the numbers for the previous days were:
20-Aug = 5
21-Aug = 6
22-Aug = 7
23-Aug = 1

It is constantly updating and sometime it takes up to 24hrs so the ones from yesterday (8/24) are still incomplete. Anyways, to get this point you need to guess the total number of DUI arrests in the Athens-Clarke county from the beginning of Friday August 28, until the end of Sunday August 30.

Submit your answers by 11:59pm on Thursday. Next Tuesday (8/31) I will pull up the records and count the total arrests classified as DUI Alcohol that have a booked in date between 8/28 and 8/30. The person (or persons) with the closest guess gets the point.

Remember the city slogan. Athens GA, come on vacation and leave on probation!
