Weird to see this type of packaging proliferating in smaller Oregon breweries. Just drank Tiny Deceits by Ruse and Eastside by Baerlic..in these. And of course pFriem does em too.. Is this happening nationally because i havent seen any outside of Oregon brewers using these? I actually prefer this size myself as long as the brewer discounts the price from the 22 oz.
Heater Allen and Bend Brewing as well, both of whom charge less than they did for a bomber. I prefer this size to bombers for sure.
I think there's a bottle supplier in Portland that has made this the more affordable and sensible route for breweries to take. Pfriem kicked the door down on the $3.99 500ml bottle and dominated that market for well over a year. Many more have switched over from Swift Ciders to the upcoming rebranding of Old Town into 500ml. Wouldn't be surprised to see more follow.
I love em, good size that if you want you can pour fully into a glass. For bombers, other than sometimes it's a bit too much beer (esp high abv), you're also stuck with 2 pours which depending on the beer can result in different tasting beer, especially sediment heavy beer. I mean on one hand it's nice to refill that glass, but on the other it's nice to drink the whole serving in one pour.
Just found out this morning that Boundary Bay will putting their Bootlegger series beers into this format this year.
I'm so-so on this format. It seems great for drinking solo compared to bombers, but as I have a wife that is just as happy to share in beer, splitting one leaves each feeling like we got half a beer.
Haha yes, where we get a taster. That was my solace for not being able to get either of the Ancient Ones. Would have been sad paying the $60 and only getting half of each.
