I am starting a beer-focused nonprofit, Beer it Forward, Inc., that will conduct bimonthly raffles of beer. 100% of the proceeds will go towards local organizations, causes, and individuals in need. Our hope is to become a 501(c)(3) organization such that donations (of beer) will be tax deductible to those donors. Additionally, we will be working within the laws of our state in order to conduct these raffles, with a license, such that we are also 100% legal. Unfortunately, that means to start, we will only be able to conduct these in Wisconsin, and only be permitted to sell tickets to Wisconsin residents. It's my hope that this venture is successful and we are able to expand in order to operate in other states. As I'm sure you are all aware, states have some pretty funky laws/restrictions on conducting raffles as most see it as a form of gambling. I've spent a great deal of time and money getting the organization set up (proof). Therefore, I've decided to hold a beer raffle in attempts to raise the $275 IRS application fee!
