I've got a chance to snag a 6 gallon carboy cheap. I use a 6 1/2 gal now, and I know more head space is better. Just wondering if this 6 gal would work OK with a blow-off tube?

I think it would be just fine. The 6 gal size seems to becoming more popular in the various stores (online and in-person) I've looked at.

That's what I use, it should be fine. Just don't fill it up too much and if you're expecting vigorous fermentation attach a blow off tube.
