Meet Minnesota’s Newest Brewery at The Pourhouse in Downtown Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS, MN – February 4, 2013 – Who’s thirsty? Minneapolis’ newest brewery 612Brew is proud to announce the public debut of its beer lineup at a release party on February 7 at The Pourhouse, 10 South 5th, Minneapolis, MN 55418. The launch party, set to begin at 7 p.m., includes all four of 612Brew’s initial offerings including Zero Hour, which will normally be exclusive to the soon-to-open 612Brew taproom.
The 612Brew lineup was first made available to thousands of cold, thirsty beer fans at the recent Beer Dabbler event in St. Paul, where it was voted one of the top three breweries by those in attendance. For those sane people who prefer not to risk frostbite while they drink, the launch event at The Pourhouse will be their first chance to sample the 612 Brew lineup, which includes:
Rated R: West Coast IPA meets Midwest Rye. Rated R is a beer for the Minnesota hopheads. This Rye IPA greets you with a burst of citrus hop aroma and tempts you with the spice from the rye. Rated R is 612Brew’s most full-bodied and hoppy beer, yet easy enough that your mom would like it. If your mom is awesome.

SIX: SIX is a golden-colored, American pale ale flavorful enough for craft beer fans and approachable enough to be your everyday beer. SIX is light-bodied and biscuit-flavored with a light hop aroma. It is named after the local bus number that runs past the original 612Brew test brewery, where the beer was first brewed. It’s also the first number of the company name, but you probably noticed that. We think it’s perfect for back yards, front porches and the Minnesota seasons. We think you’ll want to drink this beer any time … all the time.

Bitter Cold Winter IPA Series #1: The first in the winter series of single malt and single-hop India Pale Ale's brewed to showcase the individual characters of the ingredients. Brewed with 100% Marris Otter and 100% single hop direct from Willamette Valley Hops

Zero Hour: Excitement is in the mystery. Zero Hour is a black ale, aggressively hopped and blacked out with Midnight Wheat. You may wonder what style of beer you’re drinking; well, turn off the lights and savor the experience.

Aside from the chance to try all four of the 612Brew beers, the launch party will also feature live entertainment. Starting at 10 p.m., The Pourhouse will host “bandaoke,” a karaoke program with a live band. Don’t be surprised if you see 612Brew co-founders Ryan Libby, Adit Kalrya, Robert Kasak and Jamey Rossbach or head brewer Adam Schill get up on the stage. Especially Robert. He’s got some pipes.

Hey there. I'm helping 612Brew out with their PR and marketing (I'll always disclose when I'm working with a brewery, because I don't want to be sleazy like that).

We'll have news on the taproom opening soon, which will have growler sales. Liquor store sales will come later - I don't know the timing on that yet. But when they do arrive, the beer will be in cans, not bottles.

    Taproom opens Feb. 13!

    612Brew Taproom Opens February 13
Celebrate your love of local beer this Valentine’s Day
MINNEAPOLIS, MN – February 8, 2013 – Who’s thirsty? After a successful launch last night at The Pourhouse, Minneapolis’ newest brewery 612Brew is proud to announce the grand opening of its new taproom at 945 Broadway St. NE, Minneapolis, MN 55413. The taproom opens to the public at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, February 13 with special surprise events continuing through the weekend.

“We’re thrilled to finally be opening to the public,” said 612Brew co-founder Robert Kasak. “We’re really proud of the beer we’re making and we can’t wait to start sharing it with craft beer fans in Minneapolis. We make the beer we like to drink, so if you’re anything like us you’ll love it, too. Of course, if you’re anything like us, you’re also obsessed with horror movies and donuts.”

The 612Brew brewery and taproom is the anchor tenant in the historic building at 945 Broadway St. NE, currently being renovated into a multi-use development called The Broadway. The 612Brew space features exposed brick and timber, polished concrete floors, a bar made from reclaimed bowling alley lanes, a nightclub-grade audio system that’s been known to pump some 2Pac and a mural by renowned local artist Adam Turman. The taproom features an occupancy of 65 and open views of the brewhouse, so patrons can see how the beer they’re drinking is made.

Upon completion of The Broadway’s renovation, the 612Brew taproom will also feature an outdoor amphitheater and rain garden that will greatly expand its occupancy and allow for outdoor concerts and food trucks.

Haha, no other imminent openings in Northeast that I'm aware of. There will be more (I know of a few), but they're a little further out.

I stopped by, it's a nice looking place tucked in on the corner of Central and Broadway. You can't tell that two of the busiest streets in the NE are less than 20 feet away. The brewing area dominates the Southern wall, with the shining beautiful tanks being a delight for one's eyes. The mural painted by the talented Adam Turman, captivates your attention when you upon the East wall of the Taproom. It is easy to see that the taproom was part of the design all along, and not an after thought. It has a nice open feeling to it; as long there aren't too many people there, there is plenty of room to move around. The seating area is decent sized without being crowded. When I arrived at a quarter to 4 there was hardly anyone there, so I was able to mosey up to the bar.
I ordered up a flight, which consisted of 4 of their beers: Six (an APA), Rated R (a Rye IPA), Zero Hour (a Black IPA), and their current seasonal Bitter Cold (an IPA). The beer was served in sampler sized glasses, the kind that you might receive when going to a beer fest. I received my 4 samples, probably around 6 ounces each. So far, the only issue I have had is the pricing of the flight at $11; I have certainly paid more than that in the past for other things, but for 4 sample sized pours of beer $11 is certainly pushing it. The pour of Six I received was murky, reminiscent of orange juice; it was promptly replaced with a fresh sample(I was informed that this in fact an unfiltered beer, and that it was the end of the keg). It was enjoyable, nothing too exciting. The Rated R was next, sadly it was forgettable at best; as I already don't recall what it was like. I will certainly try it again, as I do enjoy a rye beer from time to time. Don't worry, things only get better from here. The penultimate beer was the Zero Hour, a rich dark ale that smells of freshly roasted coffee beans. The whole idea of a Black IPA is growing on me, and this beer encourages that trend. The fresh coffee scent of this beer combined with a nice, but not overbearing sense of bitterness works well in this beer. My favorite, and the last beer I tried; Bitter Cold. Quite the juicy IPA, certainly not what I expected from the newest brewery in Minnesota. It pours a gorgeous shade of Orange, without being so opaque that it blocks all light from passing through it. A decent amount of carbonation, the mouthfeel does not detract from the overall enjoyability of the beer. I will not comment on the aroma of the beer, as my sense of smell is currently diminished. The taste is wonderful, there is just so much juicy fruit flavor in here, I don't even know what to say. It is accompanied by a nice lingering bitterness which does not impact the overall enjoyability of the brew.

TL;DR Cool place to drink, will return to enjoy the beer.

My good intentions may have turned into a rambling post, I blame the growler of Bitter Cold that I brought home.
