Hey so I have the option to buy a CR for $70...that's way more than I would ever spend on one beer but given its rarity and how good people say it is, I'm considering it. What do you think? Is that a crazy amount or should I go for it?

Since you have a dispensable income I would say yes. Making less than 20,000 a year I would say hell no!

If you need to stop and ask, the answer is probably no.

Thanks for the feedback...thinking about it and it's $30-40 (I think) from the brewery, plus shipping so $70 isn't that far off from what any of the RS members pay but $70 is still waaayyy more than any beer I've bought before. Have any of you had it?

I am gonna help you out, bro, and I will sell you one for $65. I will take that kind of profit margin any day. Seriously though, don't buy that shit. It is good for what it is, but it is not that special. IMO big, cloyingly sweet beers like that are a dime a dozen and not that special. Trust me, man, I have a lot to gain out of having access to Bruery beers like this so I could benefit by saying otherwise, but I am being honest. I trade a lot of beers like this for Tired Hands growlers, or other beers that I will actually enjoy on the regular.

if you want it do it, if not well don't. It's just money...if you have enough blow 70 on a beer then don't sweat it. If 70 bucks hurts then don't.

Hell, I'd trade mine for a case of Heady Topper.

So does that mean it's worth the $70? From the trades I see on this site, it looks like people are offering up pretty close to that in trade value and then if you factor in shipping, maybe dropping $70 cash isn't that bad

Well, in truth, I always try to trade $4$. Choco rain was $36 a bottle when I got mine. I'm not going to gouge anyone and rarity doesn't impact that much on how I trade. The bottle is worth $36 to me and I'd trade it at that.

So RS members could get up to 5 at a bit under $40 a pop (with the discount and one included), and some lucky people got to buy a lot more. It's not extremely rare this go round. Having had it a couple times, I sure as hell wouldn't pay $70 or anywhere near that. Multiple people in our RS group were not enthusiastic about paying the 40 even after having it this year.

I'd say NO as well. It's great, but I'd rather get multiples of other great brews with that money.

But if you're still dying to taste it, one option would be to split the cost of the bottle with 2 other friends. It's not just the high abv, but packs too much sweetness for a single person to kill an entire bottle (for most people, anyway).

Yeah that's a good point about splitting it. So, anyone in the Philly area want to get in on this? lol

I do $4$ at 40 since that would be the retail price.
Can get a lot more for 70 dollars and better bang for the buck.

Says me who pays to have stuff shipped to sydney

$70 is not bad. Theoretically if you could buy it online at retail tax and shipping would put it over $50 anyway. It's a premium product. If it were a wine or a spirit $70 wouldn't be high end. It's a good beer to share with friends.
