I didn't mean to derail this thread into a PC debate. LOL

It's not about being PC, it's about thinking before one speaks or repeats something that is tragic even if, on the surface, it merely appears to be funny.

I have not had a "black and tan" for many years and when I did, I ordered it as "half Guinness, half Harp."

The problem with "car bombs" is that when ordering it's impossible to say "can I have half a pint of Guinness and a mixed shot of Jamison and Bailey's" in a crowded bar. "Car bombs" are tasty indeed - I just wish that someone would come up with a better name. How about "Irish Geyser?"

I think this stuff is great conversation. It's my favorite thing about Beer Advocate. I see lots of different opinions, but most debates are civil and often educational. Cheers.

Isn't there some kind of official name for a black & tan made with DFH World Wide Stout and DFH 120 Miunute IPA? I would try it once for the novelty factor, though I doubt it would be what we in these here parts call "good".

Sounds good. I've done it the Rick Bayless way and added tamarind puree for a 'Mexican Snake Bite', and those were pretty tasty as well.

I'm pretty sure I recall it being called a Heaven and Hell on the forums, but could be mistaken. Doesn't sound good to me either.

No option for zero, so I can't vote.

Guess I'm just a purist. I find all the beers I drink fully satisfying on their own so mixing them with other things is never even a thought.

The waitress at Dave and Busters couldn't serve me an irish car bomb because it constituted serving 2 drinks at once to a single person I'm not sure why this is a problem. However they didnt have a problem serving me half a pint of Guinness and my very pregnant wife a shot of Baileys. I did the right thing and dropped it in my beer.

So yeah... the Irish Carbomb is not the most PC name and it does invoke a certain dark time in overseas history. No argument there.

Now having said that: Am I the only one who tried a 3/4 filled pitcher of Guinness with a rocks glass worth of Bailey's and did an ultimate car bomb? I surely hope not. I'm not saying chugging is the way to enjoy beer, but there was a time and place where it had to be done.

You need a zero in the survey.

I worked the early shift right out of college and after I was done I used to meet my buddies out to shoot pool everyday. That was a long time ago but have some great memories. One of those was pounding Dr. Peppers. Drop a shot of amaretto in a "lite" beer and chug it. Sh$t tastes just like Dr. Pepper, and I love Dr. Pepper. It's ok to have fun with beer.
