Moron is harsh. I agree. People can like whatever they want and it's preference.

Loved the Okie joke. I woke up in my teepee this morning and rode my horse into work today. Thank God we finally just got indoor plumbing. IT'S COLD!

My wife shared this article with me over the weekend and I had the same thought.

Trying to get this back on track...

Why does everyone think this was a "top 9" list? It's not. It's a "9 things you should try because they're delicious" list.

Concur. It seems like that's the way some (most?) are taking the article as a shot at their personal favorites list.

In the interest of discussing the list, I've had 3 of the 9: Abyss (outstanding), XH (very good) and Ola Dubh 18 (outstanding).

But the best part of this article is that the author takes the time to delve into the concept of barrel aging--at least the "new school" of barrel aging, wherein used spirit barrels are used to age/house beer for a period of time rather than the long-established tradition of using barrels to mature things like lambics and other sour beer styles.

This would be a nice starter article for anyone who wanted to know a little more as well as learn about some examples of barrel-aged beers that run the gamut of what types of beers get put into what types of barrels. I doubt many people think of sake casks when it comes to barrel aging. And even scotch whisky barrels don't seem nearly as common as bourbon and rye whiskey. And say what you will on the author's personal tastes in what constitutes "outstanding", I'd say she knows a thing or two about beer and how to taste and describe beer.

    Why would it be deleted?

Hey at least it was a single webpage, not like the "listicles" that are all individual pages.

This is a very intriguing list, I haven't had 3-9. But isn't Chez Monus, and Opuntia a wild ale?

Yes but they are both barrel aged. I thought those were the only parameters.

Overtly yes, but judging from the list, since everything is a dark bourbon barrel aged beer, I thought that was more the target.

Calling her a moron is a bit much, I think. Sure, she doesn't seem to have the best of judgments, or she's had limited experience. But those are not bad beers by any means, even if they are not the best.
