I'm now thinking I will throw a bottle of Insanity into the mix if I come across one. Thanks.

That's one of those beers that I was always tempted by, but always passed on... now it's gone.

A JW Lees bottle is one of the beers I'd still like to include. We'll see.

I was waiting for someone to ask me that! It would be great, but I'm not planning on it. It'll turn into too much of an assignment if I did. Maybe I'll chime back in though. I don't know. I'm thinking I'll attempt to save any "new" beers for Sundays and simply post in NBS... but I know I'll have a hard time managing that.

I don't know yet. I might just go with whatever I feel like, but I will have to pick a first soon and that brings me to:
Even though Tally-Ho was traditionally a Christmas beer, and as such, it would be nice to have later in the month, it's been around since the 19th century in some form, and the current beer will be a great baseline to start with. It's a natural choice for the first beer.

@snaotheus , your questions expose the issue that I'll be out of town for certain days, and I'd prefer to skip that day rather than pack the drink. Given this, and the fact that I've gathered more than 31 beers, I'm going to double up on certain days. I'd rather do this than go beyond the month. We'll see how it goes.

Which one? Is it Samurai Barley Ale?

What an admirable undertaking! You've already got some goooooood shit there. Being Alaskan, you know I'm gonna recommend Arctic Devil and Deal with the Devil, both of which I've imbibed many a time. Alaskan Brewing Company's "Alaskan Barleywine" is also very good, but a little more rare right now, I think. Haven't seen it since 2013.

And yes, I also say JW Lees Harvest Ale would be an excellent choice. Classically British barleywine.

I have a 2013 Hop Slam you can have...pretty much a barleywine now. Probably tastes better, too

Way cool activity. Hope you don't mind if your idea creates some copycat barley wine killing, as I've got a few I've been hanging on to, and your idea has me thinking maybe I'll pop them this month. On the good end of the spectrum, I have Hardywood BA Barley Wine and on the scary end I have a Killer Penguin form either 2012 or 2011 that probably should have been dispatched in, well, 2011 or 2012. I may have a Bigfoot or two laying around as well. Finally, my Old Guardian collection could use some thinning, so maybe I'll attack them too.

In addition to those, I noticed that I have had several that I somehow managed to not rate, so this may be a good month to knock out some low hanging fruit.

Same here. This and Mother of all Storms. Guess I could trade but I hesitate to extend myself too much!

My 2nd favorite type beer (big stouts, first).
Faves that I've had and are also cellaring now:
Old Stock (with at least a year or two on them)
    FW Succaba & Double DBA
    Bell's Saturn
    Stone Old Guardian
    Weyrbacher Insanity
    FW Helldorado (a blond Barleywine)

I have a London Balling (Against the Grain) that I just received via trade that I'm excited to try too.
    Happy Holidays!!

Insanity is great! Still some 2014 floating around. New batch not likely until after the new year.

J.W. Lees is sublime. Harvest is great, Lagavulin is different, maybe a hair better, but it's pricier. But honestly, if you're scared away by the price tag on these, don't be. Honestly the one beer I've spent what seems to be an egregious amount of money on that has consistently been well, well worth the price.

EDIT: Do note, that, to me, spending $6 or $10 on 11.9 oz of beer would usually just be way to expensive to justify the contents of the bottle. Not the case with the J.W. Lees.

It's world class. I was not impressed when I first had it but after my second bottle I really enjoy it. I hope Firestone brings it back.

Black Hog Brewing in Oxford, CT makes an excellent Bacchanalian Barleywine. On tap at the Brewery only but they do, do growler fills.

great idea, I'm a fan of barleywines but really like some more than others....

particularly, I like the ones with more of a sweeter, or cherry like taste.. think dfh120 or ritual fat hog... any others with this flavor profile that can be recommended?

Hmmm...I don't see either Old Guardian or Gnarlywine there, anywhere; nor do I see Mirror Mirror. All three are excellent, especially MM, if you can get an older bottle. The 2014 was good, but it needs a few years on it yet, perhaps when the next one comes out.

I had the Uinta Anniversary Barley wine on Thanksgiving and it was excellent. I've also been partaking in Crazy Mountains' Lawyers, Guns and Money Barley wine in a can and it is phenomenal. Have fun with this - looks like a great month ahead.
