We are going to my son's college conference lacrosse tournament at Reinhardt University in Waleska this coming weekend. I am wondering what Brewery/Breweries y'all would recommend visiting and picking up some of GA's finest from. I saw Jekyll, which seems promising. Thank you.

If you are considering going to Jekyll you must not mind driving a little bit from the college. Cherry Street Taproom in Cumming is the best in that area north of town. Just a little further south from Jekyll you could hit Variant and Gate City that are walking distance from each other in Roswell. Pontoon is not too far away from those. A lot more people are talking about their beers lately but I cant really say I enjoyed the one time I visited. All the ones I listed are better than Jekyll for my tastes though.

If you really want to stretch the distance a bit then I would highly suggest Good Word Brewpub in Duluth. If you head over there then it might be worth stopping in at Six Bridges in Johns Creek as well.

There are a few in Cobb County as well. I should let someone else talk about those since I have never gone to any of them. What I have sampled from them at restaurants or beerfests have not given me a reason to want to bother.

Are you interested in options all the way in the city as well?

First, thank you for the response, I will keep them listed. We will actually be staying in Canton, which I'm guessing is close. I saw something about maybe Green Line Brewing, looks like they have a couple of their own, but mostly others on tap. Really looking for ones that I can stop in, grab some 4/6 packs and take them back to NC. Cheers!

Canton is not very far from the college. I did not even know that Green Line existed. Most of the places I listed are definitely not right around the corner from Canton though.

Cherry Street usually has some barrel aged beers in bottles and almost always has others (usually IPAs) in 4 pack cans. Many things that are on they will also crowler for you depending on batch size. Jekyll will have packaged beer for sale. Gate City has a cooler of quite a few things at any given time and will crowler most of the tap list at very reasonable prices unless it is very busy. Variant I believe only has pre-packaged crowlers unless they happen to have a bottle release option available which is unlikely. I think Pontoon sells their cans at the brewery. I am not sure of how extensive of a selection they keep. Six Bridges has had a couple of options in cans the last couple of times I was in. Good Word does do 4 packs but them having any available at a given time can be extremely hit or miss since they are all done by hand.

If you make it to the Johns Creek area for Six Bridges they are very close to the best bottle shop in the northern burbs: Max's Bottle Shop. The other option closer to the 400 corridor is a Total Wine store at North Point Mall in Alpharetta. Mind the dates on anything that would matter though. A lot of stuff can end up on the shelves for a long time there.

Thanks again, I much appreciate the time and detail you took to answer my question. I will take a look at the places you provided, and see what fits our route. My wife is telling me know we might change our hotel to Marietta. then we are going to visit our old next door neighbors who live in Dallas?

If that is your new path then you aren't going to be anywhere near anything I mentioned. Even staying in Canton, most everything was still going to be a bit far.

Like I said earlier, there are Cobb County places, but I have not been impressed by any of them personally. I have heard good things about Ironmonger and Viking Alchemist Meadery but could not give any information about to-go availability for anything in that area.

    Have fun on your visit.
