I made mention in an above post about a growler filling machine which conducts a dual CO2 purge from the bottom and then a counter-pressure fill (see video below). Maybe somebody will build something like this for crowler fills?

    Cheers!

Local brewery/taproom has two of those (basically the left and right side of the taps). I can confirm the longer shelf life (if used correctly in to a clean [and preferably sanitized] growler). I've had a friend open beer from there, filled with one of those, around 2 months after it was filled and it was fine. I'm sure there would be a difference side by side to fresh from the tap, but he's a pretty educated drinker/brewer and couldn't tell any obvious problems.

I think that is a key issue for long term storage. Most customers do not take the step to sanitize their growlers. I am one of them: my cleaning process is a triple rinse of hot tap water after the growler is emptied.

    Cheers!

I always sanitize mine. But that's because I keep a stainless howler and growler in my trunk all the time. It may be a couple months from the time it goes in until I use it. (who am I kidding, I sanitize them even if I'm going to fill them that evening. It gives me piece of mind.) I used to not keep them in my car and I ended up buying more and more growlers. I keep SS in there so that I don't open up my trunk to shattered glass.
