Thanks in advance to the locals who can clear some stuff up for me:

    1. The Shed...I enjoyed lunch and some beers at this place last year, but I understand they have gone out of business or been sold. I see they are now being produced in Middlebury. Are they brewing their beer at Otter Creek/Wolavers? Is the beer available in bottles or tap/growler only? And does anyone know of plans at the old location to re-open and brew again under a different name by the new owners?

    2. Anyone have any info on 14th Star Brewing in St. Albans? I trek up to Burlington about an hour each way once in a while, are these guys worth the extra drive? Is it a production only brewery, do they have tours, bottles, etc.?

    3. What's the deal with Switchback? Do they bottle anything? They're never open when I'm in town..do they only do Saturday tours/growler fills? I'd like to try some of their beer...and get my VT Brewery Card punched too!

    Thanks again!

14th Star Brewing is hoping to be able to pour their first growlers around June 23rd. And switchback only has tours on saturdays and does not bottle or fill growlers.

    1. The Shed closed down and sold their name to Otter Creek. Anything out there now was brewed by otter creek. I haven't seen any bottles. The Crop has gone into the old Shed location in Stowe.

    2. I don't believe they are open yet

    3. Switchback is tap only (and is at pretty much 100% of places that serve). They did a few bottling runs a few years back around the holidays but haven't in 3-4 years. They do tours but no growler fills.

Thanks for the info guys. I saw the Crop's website and thought that might be the same space. Looks pretty nice, I'll have to go back that way in the future, particularly when they start brewing on premises.

That clears it all up I suppose. I guess I'll have to try Switchback on tap and pop in on them if I'm ever around on a Saturday.

I heard that Switchback will be bottling soon.

are they going to keep the bottling/canning line in the parking lot?
they didn't have near the space for a bottling operation at there current location last I was there.

Switchback only does tours Saturday. You have to call ahead to get put on the list. 1pm and 2pm tours I believe. They do not fill growlers at the brewery and are actually opposed to their beers going into growlers. When I did the tour last month they said they will be bottling by the end of the year.

And you can always try Switchback by going to any bar in Vermont. My golf course has regular and Roasted Red on tap - Red is just great. Switchback may never blow you away, but it's just a really well made beer that tastes GREAT after 18 on a hot day.

The Magic Hat tour I did probably five years ago was fun. Haven't been there lately though.

Did the Magic Hat tour on Sunday. Pretty cool I guess, very funhouse, beers are pretty meh overall IMHO.
