This strikes me as a strange point of view. First, you could say the same about DWI laws in terms of the chances of getting caught, so by that logic you might as well throw your hands up as to ever making any progress on the problem. Second, your average, generally law abiding person does not view driving without a license as a minor risk. Sure, repeat, extreme DUI (>.15) sketchballs are likely to blow that off but the vast majority of people view that, and the associated legal fees and stigma, as a meaningful consequence. The mere fact that drunk driving rates are lower now than they were in the 60s and 70s would seem to be proof of that.

I don't follow this logic at all. Do you really think that the relative ease of alternative methods of getting home plays no role in whether people choose to roll the dice and decide that they're "good enough" to drive in a given situation? That would seem to fly against a number of efforts to reduce DWI which revolve around cheap cab call programs and keeping public transportation open later.

There's a lot of things we'd be better off emulating Sweden on but I don't think this is one of them. If you're going to parse "impairment" so finely that .02 BAC constitutes a violation then you might as well ban billboards, car stereos, drive-thrus, cup holders, in-car conversation, cars capable of going faster than 65, and driving before about the age of 30. Not to mention that you should really just ban drinking anywhere but in one's own home if that's truly the only level of impairment you're willing to tolerate.

Maybe in the US but here in canada budweiser is more expensive than some craft beer. Especially in Alberta its like 60$ a 24 pack

Fair enough. I just checked one of the recent polls, 7 - 14 per week was the most popular choice.

Maybe craft beer fans are more moderate than I assumed.

remember, in Sweden, most people ride bikes, and we don't want their toes getting caught in the spokes

Budweiser is piss, but she's awesome. I enjoyed the commercial. Other than the shame.

That Not Backing Down spot is really expertly done. The reactions of juvenile vitriol will be coming.

Yes, that's one of the first things I noticed -
Nothing happens by accident in a tv commercial - this is a conscious decision by an art director/ad exec to 'break the mold' and be 'edgy' and 'real' - breaking away from the long attended to norm that things need to look better than real life in commercial land - years ago a lot of care was put into making sure that the label would be perfectly centered with the bottle placed perfectly ("rotate it a little clockwise - too much - back a degree") - product packaging for commercials is usually specially made - to look better than it's supermarket shelf counterpart - it's like the perfectly constructed Big Mac that's shown in a commercial that never looks like the one you're paying for - nowadays in the ads they add crumbs on the surface around the burger to be 'real' - but those crumbs are individually placed 'to camera' from a tray of 'selected' crumbs -

There are so many shameful posts in this thread, but the guy who thinks taxpayers should subsidize his drunk rides b/c cabs are too expensive really takes the cake. I mean holy shit...I'm not sure if I've ever been more dumbfounded by a post here. The entitlement of BAs has reached critical mass, folks.

Why? They don't have a hand in incompetence, but they do selling alcohol.

Yes that certainly is true. It doesn't change the fact both are businesses, and would like people to buy lots of their product. Neither wants people driving drunk.
