Just popped opened a ZD that was bottled yesterday, and I'm a little bit disappointed... Not as fruity as I'm used to and the hops are overpowering. Is this because its so fresh or could it the batch?

Could be the batch that was bottled, I've noticed significant differences between six packs I've bought several weeks apart.

    Why can't I dislike a post and a poster?

perhaps your taste buds are a little off; had some interesting foods, dehydration?

This happens with me and Racer 5, one batch is delicious and balanced and the next is overly sweet and bitter and hard to drink.

They are pretty inconsistant but age isn't going to help you in this case. Yeah, its either your tasters are off or an inconsistant batch. Also, how do you know that it was bottled yesterday? Did you pick it up from the brewery and they told you?

I wonder if that's what the Report function is for... But yeah too bad.

Also I want to clarify that my previous comment is to say that there might be batch to batch variation but it wasn't necessarily all bad.

Same experience- give it a month and you will be blown away. I actually liked the best at 6 weeks.. Yes there will be a big difference..

Just sit on it for a few more months and you'll have a barleywine. Maybe that's what you're used to?

not even close, this beer has no malt backbone its all about showcasing the hops. Sit on a couple months and you will have cardboard and maybe some cheese.

I want to know how everyone knows how old theirs is. Are they telling you guys at the brewery?

if FFF would date their bottles or labels, no one would ask these questions...

though I may be the first person EVER to bring up this suggestion...

I have had the same experience with zombie dust. I think it needs about 2 weeks to hit its prime.

Right, some of the inconsistency I precieve in their beers could be do to differences in age but I wouldn't know so either way it's their fault and I hold it against them. Alpha King has been pretty inconsistent lately. My grocery store could be getting or selling old bottles. It could be the store or the distributers mistake but FFF gets the blame untill they fix the problem.

What 12oz said. I picked some up on a beercation in the fall. It was too raw when I opened up a few right away, but it really opened up at 2 wks and gave off great tropical fruit notes. I think they are rushing it out the door before it settles in the bottle.

Zombie Dust is rated 100 on here and in my opinion is still Underrated.

I also have noticed some inconsistency in ZD bottles particularly when it's served too cold.

Overall, Zombie Dust IS, truly AMAZING. I trade for it whenever I can. But if there are questions of batch variation/age, etc. Start with the first in line...
    Date your bottles...
FFF could be my favorite brewery...again, date your bottles.
Green Flash, Ballast Point, CC all listened to their customers, as well as the industry, and now date.
I remember a post I read years ago. The Ballast Point brewers argued that their beers sold out all over San Diego and Cali as a whole in record time. Why would they need to date? What about the markets they are trying to break into, where stuff sits, until they catch on?
I understand that there are lines at the FFF Brewpub for the latest and freshest. Not that FFF has new markets to break into, but there is product sitting on shelves outside of the brewery that sits. And an unsuspecting newbie to craft beer picks up a 6-month old sixer of ZD or Alpha King, and hates it because it's way past its prime, and will never buy a FFF product again. They give it a shitty review on BA, and tell their friends to steer clear.
I applaud their success, as FFF is awesome.
I understand dating is an investment, but it would prove longER term success.
    Just my 2cents.
Anyone wanna trade me some 3 day old ZD?
