Recently picked up growlers of two excellent Mn dunkelweizens: Fitger's Dread Pirate Dunkelweizen and Harriet Brewing Waluptuweiss Dunkelweizen. Today I did a blind taster with the two. Very, very close. I ended up drinking two pints of each before I scored a slight decision to Harriet Brewing. Slightly more robust in flavor and less acidic. Also a slightly more inviting nose. The two were almost identical though....both are excellent....My initial thought was the glass that ended up having Harriet and like I said I sipped my way through two full pints of each before handing down the verdict and I stuck with my initial opinion. I actually thought I was picking Fitger's. I had Fitger's dunkelweizen about 10 years ago and had not had the Harriet so I had no idea really what was what...
I really have to get some of that Harriet dunkelweizen. Maybe next weekend I can get to the brewery. Not too many dunkelweizens brewed around these parts. Unfortunately Bad Weather's is not up to snuff.
