I'll wait for y'all to roll your eyes and think "Aw, that cheap barstid is at it again...OK, on my next payday I will try a six-pack of the Ballast Point Sculpin IPA. I'm sure it's beer nirvana. On Friday, I spent $13 on a bottle (!) of Southern Star Black Crack (the bourbon barrel aged version of their excellent Buried Hatchet Stout). I wanted another. With Sculpin going for $15 a six-pack, financial sanity dictates that I can't do this on a regular basis.

Is their a more cost effective alternative to Sculpin. Something that, while maybe not as incredible, is fairly close and will keep more dollar bills in my pocket? Thanks.

That's easy...Lagunitas Sucks. Although there's not much around right now.

I actually haven't seen much sculpin around lately. Any places in the Houston area with it?

May not be the same but Hop Stoopid is always a fantastic choice when hops are needed.

Don't buy the sixer. Buy a bomber.

I had it on tap at Gordon Street Tavern in Alvin last Saturday. It was delicious. Between drinking that and Enjoy By 4-1-13 this week... I almost like IPA's... (not my favorite style, but both of those are so good...) Side note I had Palette Wrecker today and didn't like it nearly as much as Endeavour or Enjoy By...

I know the Conroe Spec's has it.

I agree with Hop Stoopid, it's tough to beat for that quality and price. I'd even go with Ballast Point Big Eye, fresh Saint Arnold Endeavour, Karbach Hopadillo, Karbach Rodeo Clown, Saint Arnold Elissa, Sierra Nevada Torpedo, Stone Enjoy By 4-1-13 (if there is any still around), Stone IPA, Stone Ruination, Sierra Nevada Celebration (if there is any still around), Sixpoint Resin, Victory Hop Wallop. I think all of those are in the range of $4 - $9.99. There is a fair amount of great beer that isn't too tough on the pocket.

Had the Hopadillo two Saturday's ago (good). Have always enjoyed the Elissa. Torpedo is amazing. I have a few Celebrations still in the fridge (excellent), along with a few Southern Star Pine Belt Pale Ales (one of my go-to brews). Haven't had any of the others you mentioned. I've been wanting to try the Hop Wallop, but no one nearby has it. They seem to have every Victory mainstay except the HW. Still looking.

I've only found Hop Wallop at Central Market and HEB stores. I haven't seen any in a while though.

Hop Stoopid from Lagunitas is very similar.

How much is Great Divide Titan? Seven something? That one is pretty tasty.

I have not had Sculpin, probably because of the price and I do not see a bottle date (that could just be my ignorance).

However, I agree with the Hopstoopid suggestion. I picked up a bomber the other day for just over 4$. I had not tried it in a while and Holy Hell it is good, I had forgotten how good it is. I also pick up Hopadillo for about 7 bucks a 6 pack. That IPA is on par with any others I have tried and I have tried quite a few of "the best."

Other than that, learn to brew your own. You may suprise yourself.

Doesn't take much. Sculpin expires in 3 weeks. Great when fresh, but it just doesn't keep we'll. I'd take Sucks if you can find it.

New Belgium Rampant IPA is quite tasty. I think it was 8.99 for a six pack.

Huh? In our area, bombers typically represent the worst value as far as size formats go.

Finding Sculpin on tap is awesome though... I've never bought it in a bottle...

There is some very fresh Hop Wallop out now and it's drinking very well.
