Stone also uses Nelson Sauvin for a dry hop (along with Galaxy) in the enjoy by. I get a bad white wine taste out of Nelson, and I do not like that hop.

Others I know do not like Fuggles (dirt) or Simcoe (cat pee). We all taste and smell differently.

Hard to tell if it was just sarcastic.

My girlfriend took one sip of Rampant and said, "I hate this, it tastes like I'm eating a flower."

its the mosaic and nelson sauvin that she dislikes. those hops are somewhat similar in that they are very berry-esque and not as citrusy.

I haven't read all of the responses so forgive me if this has already been posted.

Rampart is horrible. Stone Enjoy By (2/15/13) was FANTASTIC. Rampart has a big onion flavor to it that I can't get past. I have drain poured 3 bottles.

Don't have her drink Oskar Blues Gubna. Or have her taste it and see what she says. Check hops in Rampart, Gubna and Stone Enjoy by and see if there are similarities.

I don't like Nelson, but really like Mosaic. Go figure.

Jeff, have you tried Stone Enjoy By?

I am not a fan of Nelson Sauvin (in general) for the same reason you mention but I really liked the Stone Enjoy By beer. There is so much going on in that beer that I had no idea it even had Nelson Sauvin hops in the recipe.

    Cheers!

Had one brought back from SD by a friend. It was OK, but there was a little something.

“It was OK” So, it wasn’t putrid for you.

“ …but there was a little something.” Well, you palate sensitivity to Nelson Sauvin must be greater than mine.

I actually enjoy drinking Anchor Humming Ale which is solely hopped with Nelson Sauvin hops. My theory for why I like that particular beer is that they don’t use a lot of hops in making that beer.

    Cheers!

The answer is simple, the enjoy by was probably more than 10days old and had fallen off substantially. Proceed to the nearest sink and pour the rest. Advise your supplier to do the same.

I think regular Stone IPA tastes like garbage, but Ruination is delicious.
