My wife heard me talk about wanting to try Saison DuPont and surprised me with a bottle of it today when she came home from some shopping. On the label it says "Cuvée Dry Hopping 2013". Is this different than regular Saison DuPont and if so what is the difference? Is it still good being 3 years old?

What you have there is not the 'regular' Saison Dupont (see photograph below). One difference is the beer you have was dry hopped. At three years of age this beer may be 'drinkable' but for my palate it would not be optimum. Please drink it and report back.

    Cheers!

The brewery web site has a nice, informative, discussion about what makes the dry hopped version different from the regular version.

However, the beer being described is the 2016 version.

In your 2013 the effects of dry hopping will be pretty much gone but it should still be drinkable (if not lightstruck).

Thanks guys. I do so appreciate your insight and everyone's patience with a newbie. I've been very anxious to try DuPont and I hope this won't disappoint.

If it does disappoint, do not let this specific old beer deter you from trying a fresh, regular version of the beer. Regular Saison duPont is one of my favorite saisons, it is an incredible beer. It would just be a shame to see this 3 year old beer turn you off of something you might otherwise enjoy.

Always an issue to beware of with Saison Dupont.

Why they continue to use green bottles is beyond me.

Well, there are signs of hope. Around here the 330 ml bottles are brown, so....

I had a saison DuPont dry hopped version that was a year or two old (cannot remember) and it was fantastic. It was also on a shelf and not in the fridge. It did not seem to show a lot light struck properties. Not sure how that works, my only guess is some kind of saison DuPont magic. That beer is great.

I'm drinking this for the first time, and it's a 750ml brown bottle. Perhaps the past green bottle is why this is the first time I've had this beer.

Had it recently. It was 8 months old at the time of drinking and it was still unbelievably good.
