All text I’ve read regarding the use of pumps has been strictly in pre-pitching applications. Can a pump be used post-fermentation (to a secondary and/or keg), or is there introduction of oxygen?
Personally, I would be concerned about aeration. And possibly foaming. (Foam is not re-usable.) Some people do use CO2 to carefully push beer from fermenter to keg.
That's what I guessed. I'll stick to the tried and true method I've been using for years. Thanks for the reply.
Breweries and wineries do it all the time when filling barrels. Here is one marketed for homebrew use on the cold side (diaphragm pump)... http://morebeer.com/products/selfpriming-diaphragm-pump-beer-transfers.html
I wouldn't use my march pump or submersible pump, but I do use CO2 to force rack my beer from primary to keg or bottling bucket or secondary (if I ever use it).
