Hello all and good day. I just joined and this is my very first post. My question is about my better half. She loves helping me out on brew day but so far she Hasn't found a beer that she likes. She did somewhat like a recipe that I got from Midwest called Ferocious but claimed it was just WAY to bitter. Does anyone have any suggestions on a good beer that she may enjoy so we can both have even more fun with this hobby? She does like Michelle Ultra Amber if that helps and also liked the citrus of the Ferocious. Thanks for any help.

If she wants some hop presence but still the flavor qualities of a pale lager maybe try Anchor California Lager and see where it goes. If that turns out to be too bitter, then perhaps we can work in increments from there...

Hopefully she likes it, though- it's a great beer with crossover appeal.

My wife is partial to Belgian tripels. La Fin Du Monde is great and easy to come by. Witbier is also a style that's very approachable. I'd practice a lot of trial and error. Work your way around a bunch of styles and let her sample.

I second Fin du Monde, and add Tripel Karmeleit. You might wanna try some fruit beers, something more sweet than bitter.

My wife doesn't drink. Well, only one of her girlfriends can get her to drink but that's maybe 3-4 times a year.

I like it that way. Someone has to be responsible, and I know my beers aren't going anywhere...

My wife and my daughter, neither of which drink beer, liked Westy 12. Don't know if there's a clone of that or not ( I don't brew).

I tried everything when I brewed, even brewing a heffe. None worked for my wife, so I just keep a six pack of erdinger in the fridge and make sure I spend more on jewelry than on brewing equipment every year.

I third La Fin du Monde and suggest any of the Unibroue beers for anyone who like a more champagne like profile...

    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/22/

Don De Dieu is my personal favorite.

I would also second hard ciders. Again, that champagne profile is very pleasing to a palate that prefers sweeter or less bitter in general. I would recommend either Magner's or Woodchucks Hard Cider to start.

Locally, my area produces a bunch of great hard ciders-- if you can find it Doc's Hard Cider is very good and Naked Flock Draught is amazing.

I would try buying beer that comes in assortment packs to try different beers and different styles. New Belgium has an IPA called Ranger that is not too harsh and tastes good. This may not qualify for some as a really good craft beer but it could be a good starting point for her.

Will never have a wife or long-term girlfriend, so I can't comment about such experiences.

However, your wife might be partial to light-bodied, grainier beers like English pale ales that have a mild smattering of English hops and some caramel malt presence.

    Also try amber ales.

edit: these are based on the descriptions of her taste that you provided

My wife is buried in the basement, don't tell anyone. She liked my IPAs a bit too much... Sorry man, once I saw Ultra, I presumed you are just yanking our chains...

Before meeting you did she drink wine or fruit drinks? A number of fruit beers or sours is another avenue you could try

my wife's not a big fan either, but strangely enough, she loves 'enjoy by'. I think it's juicy/citrusy enough to keep non-hop heads interested. also had great success w/lindemann's peach framboise.

This is why they make Blue Moon. Citrus flavor and low bitterness.

“…liked the citrus of the Ferocious.”

The beauty of homebrewing is that you can tailor your homebrewed beer to be anyway you like. You can even ‘create’ you own beer style.

I personally have never done this but you could homebrew a hoppy beer that is light(er) on bitterness but has significant hop flavor/aroma. For example, take a Pale Ale recipe and half or third the amount of bittering hops but still use the same hop amount for flavor and aroma (end of boil and dry hopping).

    Cheers!

I recently discovered that my wife LOVES Porters! She kind of liked Brown Ales, but when I gave her a Porter, she went nuts. I think it is because of the rich mouthfeel yet sweet character. Good luck!

Might be easier to find a new wife than find a beer this one likes.
    Just sayin.'

Although my wife loves giant IPA , a more entry level that my wife enjoyed was similar to Shiner Ruby Red with grapefruit. She also likes wit.
