I don't understand all of the sudden hype behind this beer. It was on tap like 3 months ago to zero fanfare.

Along the lines of what lurchingbeast said above, I don't think most people knew about it before CCBW. I don't often think of Haymarket when it comes to "Where do I want to go to get a beer?" since I think the food is abysmal and I don't love the insistence on IPA's and Belgians (and Belgian IPA's). That does mean, admittedly, that I miss out on beers like this.

And, really, I should probably re-think my conceptions of what Haymarket can do -- CCBW taught me that I actually do like some of their beer and the food they had at BUG was entirely tasty (in addition to the beer). I know Haymarket has had its diehard fans for a while but I'm not sure that the Chicago-based craft beer community has really latched on yet. Beers like Janna Montana are likely to change people's minds.

Does low bottle count mean it has to taste amazing by default? If so, I've got some small-batch toilet wine I could send your way.

It's just that I like 9 of 10 beers from New Glarus, and thought their "Gueuze" (rather, hard cider) and BB Kriek were abominations.

I've only had Dancin' Man and Uff-Da from them. Dancin' Man is in my top-3 favorite brews, Uff-Da...meh.

Had Janna a few months ago as well, another great barrel aged brew from Haymarket. Anytime Mathias is on tap I grab a growler or two. Only drawback to the whole Haymarket experience is the amount of noise when the bar and seating area are full. They need to do something about the brick walls, they just bounce sound around until you can barely hear the people at your own table.

In for NG and my position is Cherry Stout is my current fav. Haymarket's is FOBAB ver 1.0 of Mathias. And I'm sticking to this position even if I am right/wrong.
