At first, I struggled with what was going on in some cases, but now I'm fairly fluent in BA acronyms.

For what it's worth, making new BAs feel like idiots, just because they don't know all the abbreviations only creates unnecessary bad feelings. It's the little things that you do that make you a great BA, not lording your knowledge over new members and being a tool. Share your experience and share your beer. Aloha

    It's called Murphy's 9th Law:
"Every profession or hobby speaks to itself in its own unique language. And no, Virginia, there is no Rosetta Stone."

I totally agree with you for professional and academic writing, but since the practice you're talking about is what I get paid to do 40+ hours per week, I'm not going to hold informal online conversation about beer for fun and infotainment to the same standard. OTOH, if people don't understand what you're saying because you're using a bunch of cryptic abbreviations, that's totally on you for failing to communicate clearly. I usually just ignore those posts rather than try to figure them out. Life is short.

Also, this is a great opportunity to add the obligatory statement about how all acronyms are abbreviations, but not all abbreviations are acronyms. Thank you. Cheers!

OTOH, FWIW, BCBS used to be BCS, which is Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout now, and KBS is easy to confuse with KBBS. We have, in fact, come to a point where it is as easy to be confused by acronyms if you know too many, and there are repeats, as it is to be confused by them if you don't know enough of them. SMH and ROFL.
