    Hi all,

I am going to be down in Abilene next week for a couple of days for work. Wondering if there are any good spots for beer/food I can hit? Also, do they have Jester King beers in and around the area? Would love to pick up a bottle or two.

Thanks in advance for the help!

    -Mike

H&H Beverages had a decent beer selection last time I went, but all distribution over there is weak. I know they have a couple of local small breweries, Pappy Slokum and Cypress Street/Abilene brewing, but I have not tried them. I do not believe any JK bottles have been distributed there.

Eat barbeque and try to stay sane.

Thanks for the tips. Unfortunately this is a work trip so I had no say in where the location would be.

Is there anything in relatively close driving range? Say 45 mins?

Abilene is probably the biggest city out that way. You're at least a two hour drive from a good selection.

If anyone does live in the Abilene area and would be interested in doing a small trade, feel free to shoot me a message! I can get most of the standard MN beers, Surly etc. and have some other stuff in my cellar that may spark some interest.

You're in luck actually. Try Abby Haus in Abilene. It doesn't have a huge draft list, but they do have local dallas beer on draft.

I work in Abilene sometimes and it's the best spot I've found in terms of food + beer. The last time I was there they had Lakewood, Rahr, Peticolas and Deep Ellum on tap.

There seems to have been an increase in brewery related places in Abilene lately.

Papppy Slokum and Kahl Brewing are both in operation now (along with the Cypress Street/Abilene Brewing). As far as I recall, they are both only open on Saturdays.

Abiby Haus (as someone already mentioned) is supposed to be a solid selection. I doubt you get anything rare here, but it should have some local thing that you cannot get outside of Texas.

    Maybe Barley-Hoppers as well.

Forgot about Barley Hoppers. Its a solid place if you're looking for a bigger list of different beers, but tends to be the more widely distributed ones. No knock on that though, when you're in Abilene you have to take what you can get!

Yeah, I do not live in Abilene (did 7 years ago). I got to say that it is a lot better now than it was then. I was just listing places I had heard of.
