Saw a couple older threads, but figured I'd make a new one with my specific questions. With regards to Abner, or HF growlers in general, what is the relative difference in level of difficulty to get a 750 vs. a 2L growler? I know there is a limit of 3 growlers per line trip at HF, but they can all 3 be 2L ones, correct? Due to the 3 per trip limit, is it significantly harder to land two different 750's than one 2L? Thanks for any input!
@CavemanRamblin http://hillfarmstead.com/growlers/ There is a three (3) refillable container limit per person per trip through the line. This is any combination growler of sizes, not by liters (i.e., three 2 liter, three 750ml, two 2L and one 750ml, etc.). Sometimes certain beers are limited to a certain size growler. For instance, Double Citra is 750 mL only. http://hillfarmstead.com/retail/
Cool, thanks! So then my question is basically is it significantly harder to trade for a 2L of Abner than a 750? Obviously the beer and glass would cost more, but is it a situation where if you're trading for it, you might as well go for the 2L since the person you're trading with is going through the same hassle to get it as they would for a 750?
Your're welcome. As for this question, I'm not able help to you. I've never traded HF glass, but I'm sure more experienced HF growler traders will have an answer for you. Good luck.
If your partner doesn't mind shipping a 2L growler, then may as well trade for a 2L. If he's driving back for a local trade, then definite ask for a 2L. No reason to get the 750ml if there's no volume restriction or shipping preference.
So for a 2L would something like a BA Speedway be in the ballpark? How about Mexican Cake + GBS? Or are people looking for rarer than that?
This is probably the most unknown territory in term of what people who stand in line to get growlers at HF is really looking for. All of my trades for growlers have been initiated by the people who are going there and I just happen to have the beers to send them. I usually don't offer crazy stuff up for IPAs so I'd think what you're suggesting there should be able to get it done.
Yeah I hear ya, it's definitely all just up to what someone is willing to do it all for. I usually don't trade anything like that for IPA's either, but I just really want to try a HF one and also just really want the growler to have.
I think the most cost effective trade and enticing offer would be a growler of HF, a few bottles of "shelf" HF saisons, a HF stemware, and some other VT beers to level out $4$ with the limited beers you are offering up.
I hear ya, but you mean with the growler being a 750 right? A big boy growler of Abner is $28 w/ the glass cost, I'd have no problem at all going over that by like $10 if someone was willing to send one of them my way, which is $4$ what something like BA Speedway would be.
I was thinking of putting all 3 bottles you listed up for 2L Abner and whatever else the other trader want to expand with to make the trade offer more attractive. Most people don't want to trade just for a single bottle.
Makes sense. How about for a 750, could a BASS get that plus a bottle of whatever is there, or more like 1:1?
Should BA Speedway get a 750mL of Abner+ a saison, sure. Will it? depends if the other guy is from MA or not.
I agree that shipping the 2l are a PITA, I get a lot of people asking me to get them 2l from HF and I rarely do it. As to the question about BASS.....it all depends. It's the type of bottle that would generate interest, but to the right set of eyes. I've got three BASS in the cellar right now so it wouldn't interest ME. But the trade is certainly in the ballpark of what someone would look for.
Ideally I would like to do a trade where I got two 750's of different beers. I was just thinking that since 2 growlers was more of a person's total growler allotment then it would be harder to get that. But I wasnt thinking about the relative difficulty between shipping the different sizes, which makes complete sense.
