I LOVE ABT12 but and with tax returns and sales bonuses, i've been buying a lot... but sometimes I notice a metallic taste. Sometimes I taste a world class beer other times I taste an average beer with a metallic taste..Is it just me?????
I was eager to finally try a St. Bernardus Witbier, as it is considered one of the best of the style, but it too had a metallic taste in the end. I'm disappointed...
It does help when it warms but I'm thinking its a bad bunch, even smells kinda metallic. They're not all like this but i've had more than one.
probably oxidized. see: http://beeradvocate.com/community/threads/what-makes-a-beer-taste-metallic.38556/
This.^^^ I usually have Abt 12 on hand as it is one of my favorite go to beers. I get that metallic taste every time if I don't allow it to warm up. Pour it into a chalice or goblet and cradle the bowl in your hand for a while to bring out the yums. Many of the Belgian Trappist and Abbey beers have the same issue. If it is truly due to an oxidation process, then that metallic tinge will not go away.
So I'm (we're) not crazy, there is an issue.. Was just at the store and the rep was helping a guy buy Quads/BSDA's, I asked him about ABT 12 and before I could even finish he said "yeah stay away for awhile, might even be a recall" The one's I had are really bad, you can even smell metal when you open the bottle...Disappointing for such an expensive product
