Went by my local Met Market again last night and 2 bottles has magically appeared after they had run out the day before. Guessing they originally held them back for an employee who didn't want them? Grabbed them both and gave one to a friend.

I still haven't even tried one of my 3 bottles from 2012 and now I have 3 from this year. Probably need to crack open a 2012 at this point.

Was at Bier Stein in Eugene last night, and all they told me was that they got a lot and expected to have it around for months (just as they did last year). You can take that with how ever many grains of salt you want, but there it is. They also noted that they have kegs stored from 2010, 2011, 2012 and now 2013, and plan to do a vertical at some upcoming event later this winter.

So those who really want some Abyss and can't find any up in PDX and/or the Seattle area, maybe it woud be worth your while to make the short drive down to Eugene. Cheers!

^ This! I just bought 2 more bottles of KDS yesterday. I would buy and drink it over Abyss or Merkin if they were all sitting side by side on the shelf. Also nice not to have to scramble around to buy some.

I've noticed that stuff that flies off the shelves in Portland and Seattle hangs around a lot longer in Bend and Eugene.

No - sorry, I mean when you check out you need to ask them. I imagine you could ask any of the employees and they will get on the walkie talkie and figure it out for you.

Agreed. However, based on what I've read in this thread, it sounds like most places received between 2 and 5 cases in the PDX and Seattle area. I got the impression from the manager at Bier Stein that they received considerably more than that.

Actually, stuff at Bier Stein moves pretty quickly these days. Not as quickly as at Bottleworks or Belmont Station I'm guessing, but fast by Eugene and Bend standards. If you haven't been to the new place since they moved, they get a much better crowd now, and the staff are pretty knowledgeable and pro active when it comes to selling beer. For instance, when I stopped by yesterday, the manager greeted me, let me know they just got in some enjoy by and Abyss, and told me they were already down to their 6 last bottles of enjoy by (they only got a couple cases, unlike the Abyss). He was all set to grab some enjoy by out of the cold boxes (everything they sell is kept in the cold box now), if I had asked him to, as he felt they were about to run out (my guess it's all gone now). In the case of the Abyss, I could tell he felt there was no rush for me to buy any, though he did ask me if I'd gotten what I considered my allocation (which in fact, I had).

The manager at BS actually seemed pretty embarrassed by the amount of Abyss they received (he refused to tell me the exact amount), so I have a feeling that they received an extremely generous supply from Deschutes. That being said, of course you're right... I think every place in Eugene that carries Deschutes products has Abyss on the shelf right now.

I'm guessing that there are also fewer stores in Bend and Eugene that they need to spread the love around to.

No doubt, but I figured that the allocation from Deschutes would be based on that. For instance, assuming there are 500 stores wanting Abyss in PDX, then maybe allocate 1000 cases (with some stores just wanting or taking a case, and some stores like Belmont station or beermongers getting more than - let's say - the normal 2 case allocation), and if there are 100 stores in Eugene, then maybe allocate 200 cases. That's probably overly simplistic, but something like that is what I would have expected Deschutes to employ. Based on what I've been told over at BS, I'm assuming my asumption would be wrong. :-)

Wow, just did a round a bout, and they're selling the f*** out everywhere! And I'm not trying to pay over $15-16 a bottle.

I ran around chasing this beer the last 2 years, now I'm stuck with more bottles than I desire of a beer that I find to be middle-of-the-road for the style. Am I alone in this sentiment? I have no desire to have bottles of the 2013 - 1 tap pour will suffice.

My two bottles were purchased as a Christmas present for my Dad since it's one of his favorite beers. I don't think I would've hunted it down if not for that reason.

Beer Junction has it, $16.99. I passed, again, mostly because I bought $160 worth of other beer.
    And, you know, KDS.

Ballard Market has a bunch of Abyss on the shelf as of 2 PM for those still on the hunt.

I'll probably be right there in 2 years, but since I haven't had a chance to try it yet, I'm willing to do a little running. But just a little. After all, this isn't Illinois.

From what I recall from prior years, and as was hinted before, the first wave hits and people freak out and then the 2nd wave hits and there's an abundance. FWIW, Fred Meyer has typically gotten a TON of Abyss.

I think this is right. It hits the bottle shops first, then the second wave is wider. I stopped at my two nearest Freddies the other night, to no avail. But based on past experience, it will probably show up there later. Hopefully in the more reasonable price range, but I'm not holding my breath.

I'm with you on this. Part of the reason I've bought so many bottles over the years is so I can do vertical tastings. When I lived on the East Coast, it was a fun thing to do, and given the limited availability of Deschutes stuff, there was usually a lot interest as well. Now that I'm back out here, I'm not sure how much interest there's going to be in vertical tastings of Abyss at local bottle shares and tastings.

My GF asked me the other day when I was going to open some of the bottles I've been saving (as they go back to 2010), and after stopping and thinking about it, I couldn't come up with an answer.

I got multiple growlers up here in Alaska last year for $10 a pop. I think they've figured out this screwup since, but man, that was nice....
