So I'm visiting Chicago and am heading out to the bars and was wondering if anybody knows if ABYSS is on tap anywhere or available in any stores?

Abyss along with other Deschutes isn't available until January. However, if you're around on December 13th, Deschutes is having a party at the South Loop Binny's store where they will have a tasting of Abyss among other Deschutes beers. It's their welcome party to Illinois.

Just saw Binny's tweet and reserved two spots...didn't realize you had to sign up.

I sent an email request for reservations at 9am yesterday. I got a response at about 8pm saying it was booked up. What the hell

I'm glad I saw this. Was able to get a spot in time.

I tweeted at the beer guy yesterday when spots were still open. I had sent an email to the South Loop email address on Sunday night. He didn't have the password to the email account and I guess he just filled up the remaining reservations by when they arrived in the inbox.

I started the reservation list a couple of weeks ago when I stopped up at the service desk after Chris tweeted out a "heads up." Make sure to follow @southloopbeer on Twitter if you don't already.

I doubt there will be widespread availability of the Deschutes Reserves Series in the Chicago Area until the 2013 vintages are released. Illinois was brought into their distribution footprint after a large expansion of the brewery. Since the Reserve Series is barrel-aged, the base beers for the 2012 vintages were brewed in 2011-early 2012 and would be based on the brewery's previous smaller capacity.

I have heard that Binnys got exclusive distribution rights for the first few months once distro starts next year. Apparently "Mr. Binny" was key to getting them into the market....

The list filled up before any of my buds could sign up, but I'll be going solo to have a few before the Japandroids show.

Callled the South Loop Binny's about bottles. Told me they will get their cases tomorrow and it should be one per person; if they get shorted drastically, it goes to a lottery.
