With the exception of Damnation it seems like the sours seems to come and go. I'm not sure what they have now but there seems to be a good amount of concencration floating around the city now. Hawthorns had a ton when I was there last night for $20 a bottle.

Damnation should be very easy to find, it's all over the place and either a wegmans or whole foods should have some for a better prices than what you'll find at one the bottle shops.

$20 or $21 for a bottle of Abyss is not all that bad. The price at the brewery is $18 this year, plus the price at Capone's includes sales tax.

$20 a bottle is pretty close to what you'd have to pay for a bottle walk out if you bought a bottle at a grocery store or liquor store in California or Washington. (there is no sales tax in Oregon, so of course prices will be cheaper there)

As for your other question, the answer is "yes, sometimes." However, the bottle shop at Capone's sees a lot of business, and so sometimes they will run out of RR fairly soon after they receive a shipment.

The one in Swarthmore sells beer; I don't believe Media does. Not sure on the pricing or if it's still available. Good luck.

    Cheers,

Thanks for the answer. I guess I'll take a gamble and see what they have. I'm sure they'll have Founder's stuff anyways.

You could always call over and ask. :-)

Also, generally Matt is more than happy to put an order aside for you, if you're worried that they'll run out before you make it over there... in case you were hoping specifically to go over for some Abyss and/or RR stuff. Good luck.

That being said, I confirmed today that the Foodery(s) haven't gotten their Abyss in yet, but they will soon.

Never had it before but I'm getting some in a trade this week. Looking forward to it for sure. I'll keep my eyes peeled in Philly.

Just my two cents of course, but if you're concerned about high prices, STOP shopping at the Foodery(s). They are notorious for their high prices (albeit great selection), especially the one in the Old City.

I don't think they can really do much besides sending us a ton more beer. There is a huge beer drinking population and a lot of accounts many of which will only get one case of many of these releases.

From what I've found, it's not the industry, but PA's archaic laws. Much like Blanco mentioned above, many bottle shops only get one case of limited releases, and distributors rarely see them. In addition, breweries must sign exclusive distribution contracts in the state of PA, severely reducing competition between the wholesalers that supply the aforementioned bottle shops and distributors.

For a city that has less that a million residents we destroy craft beer consumption.

Like Victory did, they won't compete with the local business. That is on the brewery side of things. The three tier system has led to bums with Liquor licenses having the ability to manipulate the system into giving them the rare and desirable beer for petty reasons. There is a Distributor half a mile from my house that gets stupid beers on the reg. They end up selling them illegally under the counter by the bomber, or into foolish holiday/seasonal hoppy mixed cases and whatnot. they break the law to follow the law because that how it is in the streets.

Just snagged a bottle from $$Corner Foodery$$. (I know, I know, I was there for lunch and I saw it and I had no willpower...)

Hopefully I can find a second at a better price than what I paid.

I heard it was $34 at all Foodery locations while some other center city stores had Abyss for under $20 if you could find a bottle.

    True?

Yep. Love to know where to get one under 20. Maybe Monde Market?

It was Monde, but they sold out in one day. I know the Beer Store in Southampton received two cases but I have no idea what the price was. Waiting on NE Phila. beer stores to get it in.

considering that it is a $16-17 bottle throughout all of their distribution... selling at 100% markup is absurd
