The Arbor Walk guy told me that last night.

Man that's real shitty...I got lucky I guess. I know one of the employees and I got her to ask one of the beer guys if they had any left. I've heard of Arbor Walk pulling this kind of bs in the past...

Spec's employees would never do that! :O

My son went to Arbor Walk last night at my request to inquire about Abyss , with no luck.... Seems there are a number of shitheads working there.

Welp... I've determined that teaching does not lend itself to snagging Abyss. I'm at work from 7:30 to 6 with no real option of leaving. I called about 10-15 stores throughout today with no luck... Oh well.

Just rip down the employee's only sign and start rummaging thru the cooler. Confidence is key, also ninja skills. Also you'd be surprised what a finsky will do to get you out of a tight situation (this however backfired on Ferris)

I got lucky. Dropped by today on my lunch break...couldn't find Scott, my main beer connection. Was lucky enough to find Mitchell who gave up one of his saved bottles. Helluva staff there at the RR Specs! Also managed to pick up a Big Bear. Cheers![IMG]

I went into Arbor Walk tonight (around 5:30) and the guy I talked to told me they sold out today. He also mentioned that Specs Airport got a non-scheduled box dropped off there this morning, so its possible that there is some there.

But who the hell knows what the truth is, really. Specs guys (particularly Arbor Walk - I ALWAYS feel lied to there) tend to be full of it (except the RR guys - theyre awesome)

They are the best Specs beer guys in town, by a long shot. And I made that EXACT same purchase yesterday. :)

I swung by Specs Airport this afternoon and they said they hadn't got any yet. Slaughter was already out by the time I got there.

Once again, the truth is a cloudy and elusive being in the world of "beer guys".....

Yes, Will and Scott are both great guys. Super helpful and totally honest. Can't ask for more

I spoke with a guy, William was his name I believe, at Spec's on Holcombe in Houston. Very nice and cordial beer guy, who treated me like an actual customer. Anyway, he said his BEK rep will be in tomorrow and he will be checking/ordering several brews. The smaller Spec's stores are much better in customer service than the downtown/midtown box.

Haven't scored any bottles yet but Whip In has it on tap. Definitely needs some age on it, but not a bad beer. Out of the tap, I think Black Butte XXIV is/was much more interesting.

Holy shit I am beyond irritated at specs staff in general right now either not knowing shit about their inventory or hiding shit for themselves. Specs South Park meadows saying they don't have it and haven't seen it and then the guy at specs Brodie saying he had no eta and hasn't heard anything. I had to tell him they're getting it tomorrow

Just left there and I have to agree. Had darkest hour on tap and it was much better. Also if you haven't tried the brahmale yet you're fucking up

RR specs sold out today, got email word, wasnt able to get there :(

but i cant believe that its gonna be THIS rare this year only since any other year, since moving here, it wasnt a problem getting it. (3 years running and i had NEVER had an abyss til moving to texas)

Most definitely. They're putting out some great brews over there. Dipak definitely isn't half-assing the brews and has an excellent brew team.

    The barrel-aged Brahmale was great.

Uh, I haven't gotten any, but I'm not worried. Central Market get any yet?

Specs are shitheads, what else is new?

Westgate is expecting 2 cases later this week. It got kicked back on tuesday due to UPC issue.

Capital rep says only 30 cases for all of Austin. Happy hunting.

Waited on hold for an eternity to talk to the same jackass at Brodie. They got three cases and are making you go up to the register to get it. Give me a break.

Walked in to Heb escarpment and asked te rep and walked out with half a case.

Thanks specs enjoy aging all that shit on the shelf

I don't think limiting it is out of bounds, it is very limited. Taking 1/2 a case meant others won't get it.

Those dumb assholes, trying to make sure as many of their customers as possible can get it!

This is a common practice, and a good one, too.

    Apparently not to some people.

Beer Advocacy doesn't mean hoarding all of the beer and winning...

That said, my target is 3 bottles (which I will be fine if I have to go to multiple places). 1 Fresh, 1 cellar, 1 for friend. The first 2 will be shared.

Of course if it's an easy get then the more the merrier, take a bunch! :D

Gabriel's San Marcos has it for $13.15. There were about 5 or 6 left. No limit. Also they carry Ballast Point now. No VaS :-(

So still nothing from the Houston area? Can't believe how annoying this is to get these days, was so much easier in CA back in 11 (and 08/09/10, wish I was 21 in 07). Dang you TABC.

  33. GreatBloomer

    GreatBloomer Jan 17, 2012 Texas

All Spec's are out of it (except Brodie that I don't know about). One Spec's contact said that Austin got much significantly less than last year, thus harder time for us to get them.

  34. DanzBorin

    DanzBorin Apr 11, 2012 Texas

    It's not entirely TABC.

Last year it was easy to get. I could walk in and get pretty much all I wanted off the shelf.

Sadly reports are a much smaller allotment was sent to TX this year to supply new markets. That coupled with the fact there are about 100X more craft beer junkies in the past year makes for a really tough get.

  35. TexasStout

    TexasStout Jun 22, 2007 Texas

It has nothing to do with TABC. The fact that it is available in Austin, but not in Houston, points to the distributor and the brewery more than anything. If you must curse someone, curse them.

My disdain was not for the limitations, it was for the jumping through hoops required to buy a beer.

    This.

I bought that many because I ship half of that back to a close friend on the east coast who has hooked me up with beer for years.

I keep one to drink now and then the other two for a vertical that goes back to 08.

If it was as easy at asking at a counter, I'd be happy. Half the time at HEBs I can't find anything or they hold them in the back and you have to ask. Problem is, nobody is EVER around. lol

Went to HEB escarpment (my local HEB) during lunch and the beer lady told me they got two cases in this morning and already sold out. Also grocery shopped there last night and there were 8 Dissident, which were all gone during lunch today. Hoarders gonna Hoard

With 8 bottles it could have been 8 different people. If it were like 48 bottles, I'd say you were dealing with hoarders.
