Abyss was selling out last year very quickly , I'll be happy if there's less hype this year

I love the WF bomber sales. Santa Monica WFs still had some this evening, too.

Just my opinion here, but don't go out of your way to grab it. 2014 is good, but not great.

I think it needs some age for sure. It didnt see quite balanced at first but I could tell in a few months/years it would be great.

Picked up a bottle for $13.99 at Lazy Acres in Long Beach. Given some of the other prices other people have posted here what I paid wasn't too bad I guess.

I was disappointed in this years Abyss. I'm not saying its bad, just not the flavor profile I like. Abyss was the beer that got me into stouts but I wish Deschutes wouldn't age it in wine barrels. I am not a fan of fruity tartness when it comes to stouts, and I'm assuming its the aging in wine barrels, but I could be wrong. Again, I'm not saying it's bad, just not my cup of tea. Lose the fruity tartness please.

To me, it's partly the wine barrel tart... although it's not over the top, but also it just has a sort of unbalanced flavor profile. I really hope they do a 100% bourbon barrel aged Abyss eventually.

Fashion Island Whole Foods had them in the back for $14.99. They are having a special 20% all bombers through tomorrow. If there are any left today you that might be your cheapest bet.

Tough to judge a beer that the brewery doesn't even think will be ready for a year, right? I think these Deschutes beers are actually better after, or at least closer to, their drink by dates. I don't know if I would be ready to make the call now. My $.02.

A great beer should get better with a year or two on it, but should also be great right away. This just wasn't for me.

I don't think Abyss is very good. I'm assuming that is why it's easy to get versus Parabola and BCBS.
