Abyss

I lol at people thinking $18 for a 22oz world class stout is too expensive. Then they turn around and make a 6 hr round trip from dallas/Houston to Jester King just to buy one bottle of a 16oz sour for $16


In that case, please leave me all the FW Reserve stuff

 

I just think most people don't view Abyss as "world class" anymore. I really liked Not the Stoic and Mirror Mirror, and Abyss can be quite good with some age, but I don't think any Deschutes beer is as good as the worst BA FW Reserve beer. That shit is on another level from Abyss IMO.

 

I guess it depends if you really think the price of admission is worth the satisfaction you'll get from drinking it. $20 for a bomber seems high, but not when I think about spending $65 on a bottle of wine (Silver Oak). Doesn't seem so exorbitant now.

 

You won't catch me driving to Austin for beer! lol And I've never even tried any of JK's fruited sours.

I agree it's a really good beer, and worth the $18. It's a matter of budget for me. I won't be spending $1 an ounce on beer too much this year. Not when there are very good alternatives available.

Looks like it has hit DFW. I saw one place post on facebook that it was in.

 

Halls in DFW got Abyss and The Dissident, but they said they didn't get much. Dissident sold out before Abyss.

 

None of the west side regulars had it as of noon today.

 

Picked some up off of the shelf at Central Market in San Antonio last night. $13.99. They also have large numbers of Divine Reserve 15.

 

Just picked up Abyss at CM on Hulen St. It was a productive lunch break!

 

FWIW, Silver Oak is the shit though.

 

Well after some searching, I stumbled upon a bottle of Abyss. Still no sign of Dissenter though.

Ran into a bottle of Abyss today. I really hope I get a Dissident as well. Sounds awesome.

 

I was at the our Meijer (midwest grocery store chain) the day before the superbowl and the beer guy was putting Abyss out on the shelf. I haven't been back there since I don't hit that store from all the students, but I am guessing it will last awhile. Either 15.99 or 16.99, can't remember which. Not many people hit up meijer for the good stuff, but I have talked to the beer guy there and he is on top of all of it. Gave me his card if I am looking for anything in particular.
