Looks like they actually did make a ton of it...and not "remarkably limited"

Has this trickled into Spokane yet? I'm here for work for a week and would love to pick up some rye/cognac.

It's weird that many bottle shops got a single case and have to do a 1pp limit while Safeway and Freddy's has cases sitting around at bargain prices.

I'm not sure, it seems that I saw some tasting events around up there (I'm a little south) and so I'm sure there's bottles. Check the usual suspects: Northside TW, valley TW and Enoteca (in Post Falls, like 100 feet off the interstate now).

Maybe Safeway & Freddie's sell a lot more of Deschutes' other beers than the average bottle shop?

Cheapest I've seen so far is $21.99 at the Albertsons on 57th (if they still have any).

Also, Enoteca (Post Falls) is selling them Friday from 5 to 8 (not sure of price, probably not too low) along with 2007-2015 vintages of regular Abyss (limited quantities of the older stuff) and unspecified vintages of imperial Black Butte.

I, too, found the Cognac more novel and intriguing, with its unfamiliar tart and vinous qualities. But I don't think I preferred it to the Rye, which despite being more conventional and more recognizably the standard Abyss, also left me feeling that it was *exactly* how I wished that regular version would always taste like. Ultimately, as always, it's a matter of personal taste and preference; but at this point I haven't seen many (or any?) verdicts which favor the regular version over either of the 100% barrel-aged versions. Let's hope Deschutes is watching...

Which Safeway might that be? I want to take my own picture.

That would've been my guess. Haven't seen it at any Portland Safeways yet.

Yeah, I'm sure they do. I just didn't think that would be the metric by which they'd decide where to send their "remarkably limited" stuff.

The difference a day makes, looks like it was a pricing mistake

I kind of slept on this due to a dry Janurary. Any sightings around Seattle recently?

Only about 12 Fred Meyers were authorized for any of the abyss, even then they have to ask for it so I assume even less. I was only able to get 1 case each of rye and cognac and 2 cases of the regular abyss. I asked the distributor for everything they would give me.

And as far as pricing mistakes last years abyss loaded at ~13.19 for my store, that happens with oddball items.
